Newbie question.

Hi all!
I'm new in stamps collecting and I have a question that may seem stupid to
you but...;-)
I am on Vatican's mailing list and I received their order form for the
latest stamps.
In the included leaflet for a certain stamp I read:
Valore facciale: 0,60 euros
Foglio da: 10 francobolli

On the order form I see for the same stamp:
Price 0,60 euros
And then if I want to order "Mint Sets", "Cancelled Sets" etc.

My question is what does "Mint set" means?!
Sure, I know what a mint set in coins is but I don't know what it is in
stamps!
Is a "Mint Set" the entire "Foglio", meaning 10 stamps?
So when I order 1 Mint Set does it mean that I'm actually ordering 10 stamps
so I have to multiply the price reported above (0,60 euros) per 10?

TIA even if my question seems stupid to you;-)

Hello:

In the case of stamp collecting, a mint (not cancelled or used)
set is a set of 1 copy of each DIFFERENT stamp in the set.

So if your Vatican set has only one stamp, then the mint set also
has only one stamp. Price 60 Euro cents.

A "foglio" is Italian for a sheet. In your case, the stamp was
printed in sheets of ten stamps, so the price of the sheet is
six Euros.

Mint stamps can be mint and have been hinged (MH) or
mint NOT hinged (MNH). The hinged stamps will be
missing some gum on the back. Mint hinged stamps
may sell for less than mint NOT hinged stamps.

I hope that this helps you.

From the RCSD Charter:

"Language:

Because the e-mail address of the poster is obviously _obscene_ for any

We in this ng are interested in stamps and most of us collect them for a
long time.

It is common knowledge that the participants are not interested in novelties
like "spamtraps", "retaliation", foul language, etc.

Therefore to bring something useful here get a life, for example by
collecting stamps!

I'm in the coin collecting and I'm collecting them for a long time, so
what?!

Go on but don't expect me to follow you in your little flame wars!

You are the one to bring it up, you are acting like internet police!
If you were not mentioning it nobody would have a problem!
Obviously you are ill educated and interested in flame wars!
Go on, you are alone in this one!

Therefore to bring something useful here get a life, for example by

Obviously you are in flame wars!
Well, I can't help you in that, you are alone!
As for that "get a life" it certainly characterizes you...
So just to imitate you "get a life" and stop acting like a securitate agent.
Pathetic.

Seems off that this has gone on now for several volleys.

gogu, I've seen your posts for years in the coin group, and nobody's
bothered to question your return address. I don't see an issue with it,
and I don't care what it says in whatever language it says. There are
apparently rules here you are on the fringes of violating, but at the same
time, Blair seems to have answered your question in great detail ... very
helpful. Most people here are, unlike the coin group where bickering is
rampant.

I think it would be wonderful if we dropped this particular branch of the
thread. If there are any children from Romania listening, please chime in
now. I wonder if there are any children at all participating.

Indeed and I thanked him for his kindness!

As you can see I have already dropped it when I said that I'm not interested

I also asked that "gentleman" if he is so upset from my spamtrap address to
ignore my postings in the future.
I suppose I can do nothing more to stop him from flaming...

If there are any children from Romania listening, please chime in

LOL
Obviously there are not any children around but some people are constipated
(excuse my French).
People like him (plus trolls and flamers) are the main reason usenet is
dying.
After this bad experience I'm seriously considering dropping my new started
hobby (actually it's the regeneration of an older hobby)...
Anyway, thanks again for being fair and supporting my POV that a spamtrap
address has nothing to do with the content of a posting!
You know how much I hate flame wars and nasty posters like the few we have
in the coins group.
I just asked a question and I received a helpful answer from one poster and
an ad hominem attack by another poster; I suppose this is usenet...
Anyway, for me this matter is closed.

Sadly...

Follows a posting of "gogu", of Dec. 13, 2006, just as an example of the

Well, apparently the style withstood the test of time. We find the same
obsession about education and obscenity (of others, of course). One can
wonder if throwing stones at one another is not the main hobby of some.

Anyway, our hobby here in RCSD is stamp collecting. We cling to it and to
our charter, and for this reason our level of bickering is low.

Yes, some old timers here form an odd bunch. My first venture into this
group was greated with a volley of odd acronyms in subjects, as evidenced
here. I come to find out it's how the core group communicates in some
type of odd, self-serving way. And it still seems very odd to me. And,
somehow, this is also supposed to control previous spam and bickering.
Which either doesn't exist anymore, or is simply filtered out and the core
group doesn't see it. You could just start a private message board of
some type, eh?

As one who does actually just like to collect coins and stamps and usually
just reads for interesting posts, I find your rants as over-the-top as the
ones that you seem to be trying to protect everyone from. Ironic.

Heaven forbid someone else new ventures into this group. You'd think it
was the rcsd charter newsgroup or something.

(free translation: The cuckoo praises the rooster because he praises the

This "happy ending" deserves some good old music, with lyrics related to the
subject in discussion (for those unfamiliar with the text, it's addressed to
a child):

------
Ooh you're a holiday, such a holiday

It's something I thinks worthwhile
If the puppet makes you smile
If not then you're throwing stones
Throwing stones, throwing stones

Ooh it's a funny game
Don't believe that it's all the same

Yes, we all know how quick you are off the mark!

Amazing how you can blow things far above what they really were!

I wonder how can Sir F.A. Rien know how the things really are. Could he
understand the _obscene_ e-mail address that started the polemics, one that
is then multiplied by _unsuspecting_ posters? I doubt.

Has he approved the style and contents of the united front of RCC partners,
well experienced in "bickering" and exporting it to RCSD? Possibly.

Or is he anyway fishing in troubled waters? Probably.

The usual thanks for support from the main bickerer will follow soon. I
suppose.

Disclaimer: my postings doesn't imply anything negative about the coin
collectors and their hobby. I met in time several very serious, well
educated and polite coin collectors, who deeply impressed me by their
knowledge and manners.

For those who want to be moderated there is, for example:

http://www.stamporama.com/

There such a thread would be deleted before the 4th posting, because this
one were sent to the moderator(s) and not to the ng.

It would contain the translation of the obscene and racist e-mail address

No, it just proves you are a dick. I've seen it before from you, but
tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, just because I know you're an
old time "regular" here. Whatever very little that means.

In rcc, I've permanently kill-filed more than a handful of idiots.
Usually folks who go on and on about what's right, while they
hypocritically violate their own crap. In short: you remind me so much
of Phil.

So, yes, apparently there are many similarities between the rcc old timers
and the ones here. I'm happy to reuse my favorite solution from there,
when "these types" show up. I'll give you more exclusiveness with your
inner circle.

Sorry, but what I saw did not include that, but it seemed more of
Victor's usual immediate ranting upon anything I migh say that he can
twist.

My presumption was that he transferred from my comment on tit-for-tat
linking over to yet another message thread - something he does quite
well.

Fortunately I know how to ues killfiles so I don't see VM's bickering.

Now back to helping those with queries on GB. Thankfully most serious
collectors have my direct addy so it's not 'taking up space' needed by
alyn and VM.

Wow, nice way to bring me up here. You must work wonders at garden parties with all your serious collector friends.

You typify the arrogance that is associated with many 'serious collectors'. I didn't contribute to this discussion because I don't read Romanian, and somebody else answered the original question.

I suppose that if I had placed a email address of or gogutakesitupthe@ss we all would be OK because that wasn't the original intent or question.

I love that those who feel it is their god given right to insult and malign love to complain just as much as those they claim are complaining.

That's right, this is *exactly* the point!
It doesn't matter the address (which may be there for obvious reasons) in an
obsolete language but the ***content*** of the posting!
My question was answered gracefully by a poster and I'm thankful for that,
that's how decent people behave!
The rest is V.M's desire for flames and control over who should post here or
not.
We've seen such a behavior in other groups, we will see it again; it's
typical of bitter people and of Usenet, nothing new.
So I'm asking you all once again: please let's stop this thread here, let's
don't play V.M's flames play, let him alone insulting like a 5th grade!
It's not worth!

That's exactly what every decent (new) collector asks for.
Simple, understandable, concise answers!
No constipated people who regard themselves as the gurus of a (public) group

People who instead of talking stamps prefer to discuss their frustrations...

I noticed that "gogu" uses the newsgroup servers of a prestigious Greek

The last hit of his RCC companion, "Nick Knight", was: "No, it just proves
you are a dick". This "elegant" assertion shows similarities of thought
between gogu & nick.

After having implored us: "PLEEEEASE, let's stop it now!", "gogu"

It became obvious that these men got enough rope from participants and that

Concerning http://www.stampboards.com/ let me add that you can also post
links to your philatelic blogs and websites, post pictures of your
collection, and start threads dedicated to your collecting interest etc.
It is one of the largest on-line philatelic communities in the world, if
not the largest. Members happily share their knowledge, and there is
expertise from both popular and esoteric collecting areas.I have had so
many of my questions answered (I am a thematic collector). I have found
it has vastly expanded both my appreciation of philately and my knowledge.
It is a great site for all philatelists! Why not join? (and "No' I am

Sure, as I said I'll give it a try, especially if it's a troll-free place
(since it's moderated) as you said;-)
I'm a coin collector but I was collecting stamps when I was young.
Recently I found my 40 years old collection and together I found a
collection of my late father I was not aware of its existence!
It seems there are a few rare stamps there (I could spot a couple of Hermes'
heads) so I'd appreciate a help in evaluating them.
Thanks again for the link!

???
Why are you shamelessly lying?!
Mr. Knight is an old rcc poster and he can't use the ntua server since you
can use this server *only* if your ISP is a...Greek ISP and you are part of
the academic community (individuals of low ethics like V.M certainly never
made part of such communities...)!
In other words no one using a *foreign* ISP can post through that server!
Check again Mr. Knight's headers and you will see that you are a LIAR!
Not it was not expected from someone of your ilk though...
You are a sad, old TROLL!

PS
A short search of Mr. Knght's headers will reveal to any *DECENT* and
good faith poster that he is posting using an anonymous server
(eternal-september.org) and *NOT* the server of NTUA in Greece!
Also any poster with basic intelligence would spot the mediocre use of the
english language by me and the perfect use of the same language by Mr.
Knight who is obviously a native speaker!
But for people with low ethics like V.M, LYING is something like second
nature to them...
Pathetic...

Guy. I appreciate it, but there is no need to defend me. My email
address is valid; it's one that represents my very own domain, one that I
have registered for ... hmmmm ... 15 or 16 years now? My posting history
is vast, including quite a few posts here. And my previous email
addresses are easy to find, and posting under them is just as vast. And
who cares? If I wanted to be anonymous, I'm allowed to be. I've just
never found a need for it. But ding-dong would know that, since he's an
alleged expert at digging up posting history. As if that's difficult!

What kind of clever am I if I post through an anonymous (read: free and
popular and adopted when my huge US ISP, cox.net, dropped newsgroups) yet
use my real, direct email address and name?!!! Victor! You caught me!!
duh

Victor is just your typical Usenet wacko. He probably wears an aluminum
foil hat and worries that little green men are going to find him and speak
obscenities in some odd alien tongue. Oh, sure, we can't understand them,
but they MUST BE saying something vulgar, eh?

I've twitted the twit, as apparently many others here have. Odd, because
I actually had a different "first impression". Whatever. He's wasted
enough of my time. I haven't seen anthing from him for quite awhile.
Until now, as you quoted him. Reid does that often "for me" in rcc, too.
I guess it's your perogative, but I'd prefer it if you didn't quote the
idiot. It's apparent that he's logically challenged, so why not let him
wank on and ignore him? He's never going to get it.

I set my kill entry to expire in a few months, but I see no reason not to
make it a permanent entry. I'll go fix that now.

Securitate in his old country had a vast archive of the "enemies of the

Exactly;-)
But scum like V.M will use lies in order to make their point (what that be
anyway?...).
After all this is the only thing they have: lies and misinformation.

Victor is just your typical Usenet wacko. He probably wears an aluminum

Rest assured this is the last time you see me quoting/answering a message of
him;-)
It's a total waste of time dealing with people of his ilk.

It's apparent that he's logically challenged,

Senile?...

so why not let him
wank on and ignore him? He's never going to get it.

Following my own advise, I was ignoring him for days.
But I could not stay mute when he started lying!
As you have seen in my last posting I sent him back to oblivion.
You are "old" enough on usenet to know that feeding the troll is the worst
thing one can do;-)
So...to the oblivion with him!
Some inferiority complex suffering people want always to have the last word,
so dear V.M...have it your way, say whatever you want, feel good, have the
last word!
After all, you are a sick man and doctor said we must be nice to you;-)
Have a nice evening and....get well soon!
