How about a stamp dedicated to the longest English word: "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanocon"? It means: a lung disease caused by the inhalation of volcanic ash, causing inflammation in the lungs. -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spanish North Africa: http://www.sna-on.postalstamps.biz/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

It's your way on some online word lists, but I think that may be because it reaches the 40-character (?) limit on the database field. A grep through the list I compiled from online sources (primarily orchy) of English words shows 20 words of length 25 or greater, but all but two are scientific terms -- "antidisestablishmentarianism" is the longest that is not. The second longest word overall, counting technical terms, seems to be "dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane" with 32 letters. If anyone wants the list, please contact me off-list for the URL. I am wary of posting the URL in the clear here, because it costs me 1.7MB in traffic every time it's downloaded, and I only want that to be consumed by real, human readers -- not robots or spiders. -- Joshua H.
