The book starts with firearms from the Seventeenth Century and traces the development of the standard military firearm from the matchlock musket, through all the varieties of the flintlock, to the introduction of the Enfield rifle in the later half of the nineteenth century. Detailed information is given on the Brown Bess and India Pattern Muskets, and experimental models produced by gunmakers as Richard Wooldridge, Henry Nock and Durs Egg. Cavalry carbines and pistols, breechloaders, the Royal Horse Artillery pistol, naval arms, seven-barrelled volley guns, and more are described in photos and in detail. There are sections on the measurements and contract prices of flintlock and percussion firearms, barrel and lock marks, and manufacturers marks on stocks. This is a great comprehensive book on British firearms and a great addition to any British Military arms collector. The book measures 6 ½ inches x 9 ½ inches. The book and dust jacket are in excellent condition. There are no loose, torn, or missing pages. There are no stains or water marks. The dust jacket is in equally excellent condition.
