Marion Island - cover from 1948
eBay item #2944128489
Marion Island is a tiny island in the South Indian Ocean. In 1948 Robert Crawford, the author of the book "Tristan Da Cunha and the roaring forties" where stationed on this island, where he, among other things, acted as postmaster. March 20th the ship "Natal" left the island, carrying a mailbag with leters bearing South African stamps and his rubber cacet endorsement, "Marion Island, South Indian Ocean". The letter I have for sale was sent to Norway. It's in very good condition with undamaged stamps and a clear cancellation. The item can be seen on http://home.netpower.no/skjervik/marion.jpg as well. Kind regards Olav E. Skjervik |
