Thank you in advance to all for your kind help Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Matteo Hello Matteo, I cannot be of a great help for this, but nevertheless a few things : It could be useful as well to ask the same question on another newsgroup, where people buy and sell stamps : news:rec.collecting.stamps.marketplace I could not find this stamp in the Yvert catalogue. After a lengthy search, I found it under number 1170 (not 1100). Yvert says also that this stamp was issued in 1992 That its face value is 11 r (for roupie in French or rupie in English) Multicolour In my old (2000) issue of Yvert catalogue for India, the cat.values are : 11 French Francs (about 1;7 Euro) for a mint stamp 7 French Francs (about 1 Euro) used To-day, the cat.value should be about the same and one may buy this stamp at 1/3 of cat. value i.e. about 1/2 Euro mint. The *only* problem is to find the stamp :-( Additional information contained in the Scott catalogue : The Scott number is (India) 1427 The stamp was issued on 19 Dec. 1992 The Scott's text says "Stephen Smith 1891-1951 Rocket Mail Pionneer" In my 1999 issue of Scott the cat. value is 1.10 US $ (mint) or .55 (used) The Scott cat. number may be very helpful to find this stamp. Even more, the Stanley-Gibbons cat.number (as India has had strong links with the UK). May be somebody here will be able to give you the corresponding number. The best way to find the stamp would be to buy it directly in India (but then the problem is to find addresses of stamp dealers there). You may also search with the different catalog numbers on www.ebay.com or on www.delcampe.com Hope this helps ! -- All the best, Pierre Courtiade to answer me, please replace NOSPAM by my family name |
