The Russian Postal Service and the Meteorite

One of the most popular jokes was that the meteorite was supposed to fall on
Dec. 21 last year -- when many believed the Mayan calendar predicted the end
of the world -- but was delivered late by Russia's notoriously inefficient
postal service.

I mailed a CD from our Math Study Unit to a member in Russia last October.
He had not received it as of early February. This is the only CD out of
about 40 mailed out worldwide that did not get through. Apparently this is
not an isolated problem with Russian mailings as the member asked us to
send the CD to a friend in the US who would be able to get it to him.

The solution to send something safely and fast to Russia, that I tested and
that perfectly worked, was by FedEx. It was expensive though.

BTW, it was the same carrier that I used to send important documents from
NYC to Chicago. The common denominator is not difficult to find (no, it was
neither the meteorite nor the end of the world :) .

Fedup Hex works IF you live in a city!
IF you live in the rural, clean, friendly US, then they dump it off to
some slob who may, or may not, bring it down a week later in the back
of his pickup.

That's the point, it works.

NO! The -=point=- is that FedUp ONLY works if you live in a city!
UPS has the same overseas services and -=works=- eveywhere!

It's the same point, because UPS works too.

More exactly, there is a reason why so many are paying more for the services
of private couriers. FedEx was just an example, because it has worked for me
in the same country in which the national postal service hasn't for Bill (as
posted by him in this thread).

Yeah, much, much better. They actually use THEIR bonded employees to
deliver to ALL addresees!

As said, Fedup Hex ONLY uses their system in the big ****ties. In the
rura areas it's dumped into someone's pickup and comes [or not!] a
week later.

So paying MORE for less ... ???
Guess you think that's good!

Even if not this one was my subject, let us see what think others, who most
probably know mo

"Given that overall cart abandonment rates rose to 75 percent in the first
six months of 2011, according to SeeWhy, the conversion and remarketing
firm, retailers need to do everything they can to lower shipping costs.

....

Which Carrier Is Best?

Each carrier has a lot to offer. For example, USPS Priority Mail is an
excellent choice for fast, low-cost shipping, and USPS is the only carrier
that does not charge extra for Saturday delivery or that can service post
office boxes.

UPS had the largest ground fleet with an estimated 101,900 trucks (or
"package cars," as the company calls them).

FedEx was the leader in prices, and the most green, with 329 hybrid
vehicles, 19 electric vehicles, and 406 alternative fuel vehicles.

So, which is best? The bottom line is that it depends on what you ship,
where you ship it and what packing-materials needs you have, if any. It
depends on your customer service needs, and your sensitivity to
environmental issues. The best solution for your ecommerce business may not
be the best for mine. It depends."
