Slave depictions on obsolete bank notes

Hi,
I'm currently working on paper about the images of slavery on obsolete
bank notes. Does anybody know why some of the motives were still used
after the end of the Civil War, i.e. they were still printed on notes
issed in the 1870s?

Thank you for your help!

I would suspect it was out of convenience to use a design that was
already engraved and would cost less that way
rather than any political statement on slavery in general.

There was a museum exhibit somewhere in the past year ago on this
subject by someone who had done a lot
of research on the topic but I can't remember the details at the
moment. A google search should bring up the
information.
