OSCAR PARTY 411

hey all...i've been missing putting this out...but it wasn't all that eventful
and with everything else i am doing outside of autograph collecting, i haven't
had time to punch any of this up...but i was out for oscar night and it was
fairly well....dissappointing. (to me at least)
i went to the big vanity fair party...and unlike last year- there were like a
million people there...but it was fun...
the cops were out in force making it difficult for me and my team to drag all
our stuff out there (having to walk 5 blocks with my crates was extremely
difficult) and kept the crowd at a more than needed distance(i'd rail about how
stupid security has gotten at these events, but that would be longer than my
report)
as we watched the oscars on a small tv (which i took back to circuit city
because the screen went black for the biggest awards) all were excited....
there were like a million people there and kept showing up more and more all
night as there was another party within walking distance..
the arrivals were real good when we spotted people like kirk douglas and his
wife show....but he was unable to walk across the street just to sign
autographs.. and orlando bloom showed up with kate bozworth in hand- also not
coming over either...in fact, if the celebrities showed up in a limo and/or
didn't walk to the other party- the celebrities didn't sign all night. except
for hillary swank who was the only person to go out of her way to sign all
night. but we did get some good people..
many people were real cool about signing...as people started walking from one
party to the next we saw anne hathaway, molly simms, katie holmes (who signed a
ton- getting away from her real horrible signing reputation...but alec baldwin
did not (keeping his horrible track record up to date.)
huge dissappointment of the evening was sir ian mckellan who has been
exclaiming that he is no longer signing- send it to his agency (which i am not
sending lotr posters with multiple signatures in the mail to get a secretarial
or a stamp) he's gotten so horrible i am talking about tobey maguire alert.
people like christina applegate, djimon honsou and robin williams, andy serkis,
nick stahl signed for everyone who wanted one (and trust me, there were alot of
autographs signed)...
not to rail too much, but the party is in a VERY GAY neighborhood- and many of
the gay men kept telling-not just the regular collectors but everyone- that
they did not need these people's autographs...but when both diego luna (he of
dirty dancing 2 fame) and carson of queer eye for the straight guy showed
up...they were the first people to SWARM these guys for autographs (EVERYONE,
it turns out,is quite the hypocrite).
all in all it was a good night...also on the really dissappointment side...now
that charlize has won the oscar- SHE'S going to become the monster. as she was
horrible about signing before (occassionally, when the cameras were there or
her mom was- she was nice, but she's been real bad for a few years now) she
looked absolutely horrified to be asked to sign now. running away from
collectors - when on the other side of a fence no less. it's going to be bad
with her for a while i believe.
should i report about the independant spirit awards too? or does anyone care?
that's it for now...graphracker was there for a while too. but the party lasted
for quite a while and i went to another party that night and didn't get home
till 5 am.
hope you liked the report...

Not only "Yes" but "Hell Yes!"
Please keep the in-person reports coming Barefoot. You and Kevin both. It's
what keeps me coming back to this group time after time is in hopes of seeing
more in-person reports, especially the LA ones - good or bad reports. I know
there are more in-person people that visit this group for we contact each
other back channels everyonce in a while. I know they love the reports as
well.
Thanks,
JC

Thanks for the report, I enjoyed it. And write others for anything you may
attend, no matter how small you feel it might be...some of us like this "behind
the scenes" stuff, I know I do, so keep it coming..

I always love hearing about stuff like this to. How was Tom at the IS awards?

You know I spent a long time trying to get Stuart Townsend. When I finally met
him IP he said he was 'really busy' and didn't get to read his fan mail often.
Of course he could be taking a page from his g-f. But he did sign for me,
although the signature is really bizarre...like a huge circle.

I agree, your posts (and kevins) are one of the reasons why I keep
coming back- keep the stories coming! I'm only able to meet some
smaller stars (sometimes big) each year and can only dream of what it
would be like collecting in a hotspot like California or New York.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to check it out! Have you (or has
anyone else for that matter) ever had experiences with Jim Carrey, I
was just wondering what he is like in person.
Take Care,

honestly...i hear he's horrible...in all my years i've never gotten him. a few
years ago my roomate was ron howard's driver on "the grinch" and he gomt me
several...but i don't know what he's like, all i can do is pass on that he's
not that nice and doesn't do photo ops at all.

Barefoot. That is so cool. I wish i lived in Hollywood as well. But at the same
time, I have a job and all and wouldn't have that much time to put in.
I've never asked, do you see Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes or any other view askew
people out in Hollywood? I hear Kevin lives there full time now (used to be a
east coaster) and that Jason is living in his house so as to have like a fater
figure help him overcome his serious drug habit. Are those guys around a lot?
And Kevin is going to direct the new "Green Hornet" movie. So he's going to be
hot.
Do you ever hear of people like Mariyln Ghilotti, Jeff Anderson, Lisa
Spoonhauer or any of the people from Kevin's original movie "CLERKS" around
either.
Just wondering, thanks for the posts- keep 'em coming.

Barefootmk March 5th 04 12:14 AM

yeah...everyone has to pay the bills huh?
well, kevin smith and jason mewes are super super nice...they sit around and
talk and sign for a long time. they are very nice..
i am looking for jeff anderson and his wife lisa spoonhauer too to finish my
clerks poster (love that stuff myself) i never see any people from
clerks...marilyn has a website...but don't know what it is. she was in a
voiceover workshop with me a while back. very cool.
all of them- brian, jeff, and lisa were at the jay and silent bob strike back
premiere a few years back...and i didn't have the foresight to start the clerks
poster then...my stupidity i guess. but oh well, the collection is what i work
for myself...i just get enough autographs to keep going after the collection so
to speak.

Was this the 2004 Vanity Fair party? Because Orlando Bloom was in
Spain filming Kingdom of Heaven at that time and couldn't have been in
LA for Oscar night.
