Proving a very hardy aircraft for the more rugged climates
not only in the wastes of Canada, but in the seething heat of
Papua New Guinea.

On the 1st january 1927 Guinea Airways Ltd was formed.
A DeHavilland 9 was obtained to relieve the pressure on
the DH37.
The first year of operations flying out gold showed the effects of
a tropical climate on a wood and fabric aircraft.

Consequently 3 metal single engined Junkers W34's were brought
into service in 1928

In December 1928 in another pioneer flight, a Junkers W34 was flown
from Point Cook near Melbourne to Lae via Cape York and Daru,
opening up a route which carried much of Australia -New Guinea traffic.
