New Silver Marianne
 

I have just received the new Silver Marianne, hermeticalled sealed to
a "credit card' ( for lack of better word. )
Translating the French on the back it states that the stamp will
corrode when exposed to the air and advises to leave it as received.
When I went to mount it next to the first Silver Marianne I got a
shock, this one has already tarnished all around the outer edge.
The first Silver Marianne was also on a "credit card" but was not
hermetically sealed. The stamp itself did have a loose plastic
covering.
The tarnish on this stamp reminded me of the old coin holders were the
coins tarnished around the edges, probably from the acid content in
the paper pages.
I just wonder if the new Silver Marianne will suffer from acid content
in the paper holder.
Any comments?

I am discombobulated!

If the stamp is hermetically sealed, then it should not
come into contact with any paper at all.
I should think leave it as advised.

You should invest in a scanner, we would like to see these
stamps old buddy :)

I suspect that corrode is a bit too strong word.

It is more likely that the silver stamp would oxidize or tarnish.

How in the world did you get such a beautiful image? You must have
used a digital camera or picked from the French Poste website.

hermetically sealed and mine has tarnished all around the edges. I
think the cause may be acid in the paper of the "credit card".

I think it is less about acid in the paper and more about
exposure to Oxygen , in the air.

Same reason that your parents' silver tarnished.

Hi Raphael

Given that it is the second one they issue, I imagine they have recognized
the problem and sealed it properly this time. I have some of the Dutch
silver stamps that were issued years ago and alas, the one I have "in the
open" (although in an album) has turned an ugly bluish/grey from oxidation.
I myself am also to blame, I can see a partial fingerprint on it ;-) That
does not help.
