ASA - Accugrade Coin Grading - PLEASE ADVISE

Hello.

I have sent 10 coins (worth appx. $600) to this service for grading
during their 10 for $100 21 day special on 8/22. I have not received
anything back and by now left numerous messages on the phone number
listred on their site without any reply. Also, it seems that the
original number and the address have changed.

Has anyone recently had any experience withi service? (My CC has
already been charged a couple of weeks back.)

thanks in advance.

Heh. Nah, I'd better not.

Although, a "with prejudice" dismissal could give me a whole lot of
latitude. ;o)

I would advise not touching this at all. I have no idea if the post is legit,
but it could be a setup looking for a new cause of action.

ASA Accugrade has, in the past, sued many people who made statements
that Accugrade considered negative, especially in a public forum, so I
doubt you'll get a meaningful response here specifically addressing
your question. Many who regularly post on RCC were named personally in
several lawsuits entailing many thousands of dollars in legal costs for
the defendants.

Personally. I'd stick with the one of the top 3 grading companies. That
would be, in order of consumer acceptance, PCGS, NGC and ANACS. Not all
grading companies are equal, and that incudes, grading gurantees and
most importantly, resale potential in the marketplace for coins thus
graded. Low grading fees do not mean that the company you might use is
the best "deal." From your resume, linked elsewhere on this thread,
you seem to be a very bright guy. Why you didn't use due diligence
before sending your coins off to ANY grading company is beyond me.

I think you'll eventually get your coins back from Accugrade. 21 days
probably refers to 21 banking days, so you might get them back in the
next week. If you sent them Registered, you can check on the USPS
website to see when they were delivered.

You can google this newsgroup for ACG or accugrade or Hager or
ah-collectibles. All are the same entity. That will give you lots of
opinions. You will also find helpful advice for how to safely remove
coins from slabs, should you choose to do so after reading the
opinions.

But I am not aware of any complaints about slow turnaround time. I
suspect you'll get your coins before very long. As for leaving
messages on their phone, they are probably VERY busy with their
lawyers. They filed a lawsuit against some folk who publically
expressed an opinion on their grading standards or business practices
(I was one of those originally named) and it is not going well for
them. They appear to be having trouble meeting court imposed deadlines
for discovery, so much so that their expert witness is likely to be
disqualified shortly for example.

Ira's advice is good: If you're going to certify, you should stick to
PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. ICG does deserve some respect, but all the other
services are treated more as a holder than a certification of
authenticity or grade.

Bruce (I don't see ACG at coin shows anymore, just on ebay)

Thank you for your reply. Yours and the one before it were the only
ones to address my situation. (ASA will SUE me? For what? I have not
made any statements about the quality of their grading - just the fact
that I have not received my coins in the time frame advertised.)

Anyway, if I don't get my coins next week and/or don't hear from there
- I'm off to the post office, thank goodness, the transaction was
insured.

Thanks again y'all.

And remember kids, once you have removed the pin, Mr. Hand Grenade is
no longer your friend......

Don't blame anyone. Some who were sued by ACG were out quite a bit of
money before they got dropped from the suit, you really can't blame
them for being a bit gun shy.

Will ACG sue you for the above post? Probably not. They are having
terrible luck trying to sue individuals for saying bad things and
they've got bigger fish to fry.

But ACG does monitor this newsgroup (Hi Clayton!) and has corrected
some of their ebay blunders mentioned here. Perhaps they'll look into
your problem and take care of it. You could also try the number for
Treasure Gallery from this auction:

http://snipurl.com/xmj5

That's ah-collectables new ebay id, and ah-collectibles = Al Hager =
ACG. They may be more inclined to answer that phone number.

Anyway, if I don't get my coins next week and/or don't hear from there

ALWAYS ship insured, even to the major services. Stuff happens.
