Up for auction on eBay, this doll based on the stylings of famous late 19th
century dollmaker Emma Adams and sister Marietta Adams was part of a reissue
of dolls by the United States Postal Service to commemorate the Classic
American Dolls postage stamps.
A brief history of the Columbian doll: In 1893 the dolls were shown in
Chicago, Illinois at the Columbian Exposition where they won a gold medal
and sold in large numbers. After the expo, the dolls became known as
"Columbian". In 1894 the Columbian Commission awarded a Diploma of
Honorable Mention to Emma.

Emma designed the dolls, painting their faces and hair with oil paints in
her own unique style. Her sister Marietta then made and sewed the clothes.

This doll was manufactured by Collectible Concepts around 1998 and is in
excellent (like new) condition except that her bonnet is missing. The
original box is in good but not great condition with a fair amount of shelf
wear and a bit of writing. The packing paper inside the box is also quite
torn, but this will not affect shipping.

The doll is quite large at approximately 26 inches tall and 12 inches wide
across the chest (arm to arm). She wears a white gown trimmed with white
lace. Like the original dolls, her face is flat with oil painted features
(eyes, nose, mouth, hair, etc.)

This doll is hard to come by as most of them are now in private collections.
Bid now and don't miss out on an opportunity to add one to your collection
