Wesleyan University Book Sale
Wesleyan University (Middletown, Connecticut) held its
annual book sale yesterday. They never have a lot of books (the ad for yesterday said about 3,500) but the quality is always good and you can find things that you will simply never find anywhere else. For instance, if you wanted an Urdu-English Dictionary, or a multi-volume Sprach Brach Haus, they had it. While I did not get those, I did find a Henry James, The Awkward Age (Heinemann 1899), not the first issue though - that had ads at the back of the book [McBride]. Additionally, I got: Jean Genet, Querelle (Grove Press, 1974), first printing, with dust jacket; Leon Trotsky, The History of the Russian Revolution [3 vols in 1] (Simon & Schuster, 1937), 2nd printing, with rare dust jacket, though the dj has definitely seen better days, In French, I got three paperback volumes by Luce Irigaray: Speculum de l' Autre Femme Amante Marine Ce Sexe Qui N'en Est Pas Un In Spanish, (also paperback) Jose Donoso, Casa de Campo Laura Esquivel, Malinche Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Vivir para Cantarla (uncorrected proof for 1st US publication) and others -- Francis A. Miniter In dem Lande der Pygmäen gibt es keine Uniformen, weder Abzeichen, noch irgend welche Normen, Und Soldaten sind dort nicht zu sehen.
