(RCSD) Looking Back #196 - Consular Overprints (SCADTA)
Consular Overprints
Semi-official stamps issued in 1921-3 by SCADTA, the Colombian airline, were sold at various Colombian consulates in Europe, Latin America, etc., to prepay airmail postage within Colombia on letters sent from Abroad. For identification and control purposes overprints were applied to the stamps to indicate in which country they had ben sold. Thus an 'A' overprint indicates Germany, A-U = Argentina or Uruguay, B = Belgium, Bo = Bolivia, Br = Brazil, C = Cuba. CR = Costa Rica, Ca = Canada, Ch = Chile, D = Denmark, E = Spain, EU = United States, F = France, G.B. = Great Britain, I = Italy, H = Netherlands, P = Panama, PE = Peru, Su = Sweden, S = Switzerland, and V = Venezuela. - R. J. Sutton 6th edition revised by K. W. Anthony The Stamp Collector's Encyclopaedia Published 1966 Editor's Note: Rainer Fuchs points out that this is an incomplete note. "There have been handstamps on the 1921 issue, handstamps on 1923 issue and finally machine overprints on the 1923 issue. Michel lists most of them, a total of 697 different stamps. One of the best, if not the best, book on these issues is Los Primeros Cincuenta Anos de Correo Aereo en Colombia by Eugenio Gebauer & Jairo Londono T., published in 1975." =================================== http://www.cjauctions.com/ebayimages/st1393.jpg http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/a9/c3/4cb4_1_b.JPG http://i4.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a9/c3/4724_1_b.JPG http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC03267.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC03237.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC03281.jpg http://postalhistoryone.zftp.com/scadta/LA107used.jpg http://i18.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a8/69/fd51_12.JPG http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a8/69/fdca_12.JPG |

Consular Overprints Hi Blair, Two other books are pretty good also. They do not have too many pictures but good listings and history. The Air Posts of Colombia, F, W, Kessler The Air Posts of Colombia, Eugebio Gebauer Also the Scott 1840-1940 edition now lists these issues. I haven't seen the listings yet. Do you collect Colombia or just SCADTA? To answer privately use jabodoff at sbcglobal dot net with RCSD in title. Jerry Bodoff |
