G'day Gerhard,

I just noticed Samual Morse' message on the telegraph

centenary as suggested by Ralphael

http://cjoint.com/data/kjo0pdYtPM.htm

When decoded, this paper tape recording of the historic message
transmitted
by Samuel F. B. Morse reads, "What hath God wrought?" Morse sent it
from the
Supreme Court room in the U.S. Capitol in Washington to his assistant,
Alfred Vail, in Baltimore. Morse's early system produced a paper copy
with
raised dots and dashes, which were translated later by an operator.
Across
the top of this artifact of his historic achievement Morse has given
credit
to Annie Ellsworth, the young daughter of a good friend, for
suggesting the
message he sent. She found it in the Bible, Numbers 23:23.

Luvly Blair! Booklet panes it seems.

Some dejavu

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a Youtube clip of Jay Lenno
he had two gentlemen on Morse, and two gentlemen using ipod phones
and text messaging.

The contest was the fastest to relay a message given to one partner from
jay lenno to the other partner

Morse code won hands down. :)

wait...there's more

The big question is, Morse was primarily an Artist / Painter
Is there a stamp honouring him under this discipline?

Although Morse THOUGHT he was born to be a painter , he was not
a good painter and rarely finished a painting. He made $5 a go
painting
miniatures for people, but for the most part he was poor.

As an art professor, his students scrounged food for him and he slept
in his classroom. Actually, he was a better sculptor than a painter.

Samuel and some other painters formed the National Academy
and served as the first president of it. He worked from seven to
midnight, painting. Four murals were supposed to be painted in
a round room in the U.S Capitol. Only four artists would be
chosen and he wanted to be one of them.

Sadly he did not get chosen as one of the four, and that's when
Morse's art career came to a halt and he wanted to work on
the telegraph.

You are very good at detection Blair,
care to hypothesise why Samuel Morse appears on that poster stamp
for Coffee [Ha Wa Ka]?
Any connection? or just a similar thing to cigarette cards?

It looks like something similar to cigarette cards.
Can you tell us what the text at the bottom says?
(ADVERT PART FOR THE COFFEE COMPANY)
It was to blurry in your scan.

The top basically says "Samuel Morse, inventor of the telegraph.
Born 1791 Died 1872".
