Heinemann first editions in the early '50s by
Kevin
Can anyone tell me what if anything the English publisher Heinemann
did to books to indicate first edition first printings. Does "First
printed 1951" mean that this book is in fact a first edition first
printing?
Thanks for any help in this matter.

Preferences in "books on books" by
my-wings
I'm about halfway through reading the book *A Gentle Madness.*
So far, it's not as engaging as I had hoped it would be. I think I prefer
more anecdotal narratives, heavy on the thrill of the chase, ripe with
details of serendipitous discoveries, and filled with minutia about the
books themselves....

question about cleaning books with alcohol by
bookkeeper
Hello,
I've been ferreting about looking for ways to handle cleaning up
cloth-bound books that have some minor mildew. These are not books
for resale, but books that have recently come into my care. What
mildew there is is very minor (on a scale of 1-10 it's about a 0.5).
To the best of my...

The Sun Also Rises? by
bc
Recently saw at auction a Grosset & Dunlap reprint of Hemingway's The Sun
Also Rises--Near Fine/Near Fine. Oddly Hemingway was misspelled on the
spine--spelled "Hemmingway." Two m's.
There is no number line. The only copyright date is Scribner's 1926. No
price on the DJ--not price clipped--just no...

Never again possible.... by
my-wings
More musings on *A Gentle Madness*:
I don't know how many times (so far) I've read in this book that some
magnificent collection was a product of its times, and never again would it
be possible to assemble such a thing. Frequently, this is because the
collector chose a field where the items were...
