Error in dust jacket? by Paul
I have a 1968 copyright version of Hermann Hesse's "Narcissus and Goldmund" printed by Farrar, Strous & Giroux, English translation by Ursule Molinaro. On the back flap of the dust jacket, at the bottom, it says, "Printed in the U.S.A. 1933." What should I make of that? Would it affect the value?

What is the most EVIL book you ever had??? by Gerry Lintonice
I have a collection of thousands of books and some are really, really EVIL. For example the Necronimicon ex mortis. A very evil book. Several possessed bibles with demons trapped inside. EVIL stuff. Don't forget all the voodoo books, it's really dangerous to open them. But the most evil book I...

1st edition, Man Who Laughs 'photoplay' 1928 by [email protected]
I have the first edition, not of the original publication of Victor Hugo's The Man Who Laughs but the one that was released in 1928 in conjunction with the Veidt film. It's in good shape, except the very front page has been torn out, leaving a 'stub' about a quarter inch wide. (I presume this was...

deodorizing mould smell by Jack Campin - bogus address
Is there a product that neutralizes the musty smell of some old books? I'm not thinking of books with visible mould, just the smell of it. We don't have time to interleave sheets of stuff. This is for books worth only a few pounds, which only merit a few minutes' working over. (If it takes an...

Education, Resources - Book Appraisal by Seasought
I'd like to know more concerning what is involved in becoming a licensed book appraiser. Is it generally accepted to pursue a license as an appraiser then specialize in books? I realize this isn't specifically along the 'collecting lines' but I do collect books and would welcome advice here prior...

Looking for information on this book by SPF
I picked a book up at a yard sale this summer and I'm trying to determine if it is a "First Edition". It is called "New York" by William Klein. I saw some on eBay that were printed in 1996 and I know this one is older because it still has the Brochure/Pamphlet/Booklet (whetever it is) inside. Is...

"Your United States" by Arnold Bennett. by Al Smith
I've got what I believe may be the first edition of "Your United States" by Arnold Bennett. Harper and Brothers Publishers, New York and London, MCMXII . Unfortunately, when I bought it the book was missing its cover, and its spine had been half gnawed away by mice, so I had to re-bind it. I bound...

uncut pages? by Morpheus
I am fairly new to the book scene and I just wanted to ask about uncut pages on a very old book, i.e., the title page is joined to the next page. Do I just leave it as is even though I am having trouble reading the copyright information or do I try separating the pages?
