Legal tender -- well, except for ... by Tim McDaniel
This note is legal tender at its face value for all debts public and private, except duties on imports and interest on the public debt. Why? So if I redeem the last coupon on a bond, they'd say "Here's your $10 interest in silver coin, and your $1000 principal in US notes" (for example). How do...

Profitable. by note.boy
Bought on ebay 30 April 2006 for £92.48 and sold for £127, not too bad. It's now near impossible to find a Scottish "square" £1 note for under £100, even low grade ones. Does anyone consider this note to be "aVF"? Billy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&item=270047921832

A high price. by note.boy
Don't always believe what you read in an ebay description. These are not considered a very rare item by any experienced collector of Scottish notes, it's partially issued and many were around when the bank went bust and many of these are still available to collectors. I believe that original...

Hiding money by Happy
I would like to make about $50,000 disappear. I promise I'm not dealing in unlawful activities. The money is mine from an inheritance. I want to use $100 bills, and I want them close to me. Since the possibility of fire forces me to keep them out of the main body of the house, probably in the...

Excessive asking price by noteworthy
Wonder how much the two offers are for. These set sell for less than $100 and often sell for as little as $20. Buy now bargain at $7999 - yeah right! http://cgi.ebay.com/FULL-SET-ORIGINAL-EURO-SPECIMEN-NOTES-EXTRA-RARE_W0QQitemZ230112160550QQihZ013QQcategoryZ3173QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

No ECU Notes? by Mike Marotta
I am working on a paper for my history class (Hist 456 "Europe Since 1945") for honors credit and I chose for my topic the transition from the ECU to the euro. In the Krause WORLD PAPER MONEY books and in this Newsgroup, I find a negative: no banknotes were issued denominated in ECUs. While many...

Most unusual or remarkable paper money / banknotes? by Alex
Can anyone suggest what could be considered some very unusual examples of paper money or banknotes? I'm aware of wooden notes, silk notes and postage stamp currency. Are there other strange examples? Thank you, Alex C

Does Anyone Collect from Circulation? by [email protected]
I once built a set of $1 bills, one from each Federal Reserve Bank, A through L for Boston to San Francisco. No doubt some collectors here must be on the look out for radars, stars, etc.

Spain - Silver Certificates by CrispUNC
Does anyone have any background info on the 5 and 10 Peseta notes issued by the Bank of Spain in 1935/36? These notes were designated as 'silver certificates' but I don't know why. As far as I know these were the only two denominations that ever received this designation.

New to group..... by Jim Wild
I saw John Stone in here, so it must be ok. I am a coin collector! However, I happened upon the currency thing via sellers other items. Now, I am hooked on currency also. I like the fact that some of them qualify as works of art. I have already ordered 150 bill spaces in binder pages. I have to...

I have just ordered the "Standard Catalog of Paper Money 2004". From what I understand from several different sources, this is the big daddy of paper money reference books. Is everybody else who has one satisfied with this particular catalog as a reference guide? Amazon had if for $28. I've seen...

CU issues warning about comments on PCGS currency grading by stonej
The director of PCGS currency grading has issued a warning in the CU currency forum about comments being made on the PCGS currency grading system and says they will monitor the forum. Have they ever done something similar about coins in the CU coin forum?
