Obama's Birth Certificate is Fake by
Janet Porter
The media bought it. The voters bought it. And now some in Congress are
resisting the idea of congressional hearings because they believe that
Barack Obama's "birth certificate" has been posted online.
Not so.
What was posted was not a birth certificate, but something that resembles a...

Inherited Silver Dollars by
Tarnation
I am suddenly in posession of 20 Buffalo silver dollars and will
probably liquidate. Can someone give me some idea of a fair price I
should ask. Also, Grandfather's birthday was in 1921 and he saved a
371 circulated silver dollars (mostly the newer type) and someone said
they were worth a "small...

Clean your coins! by
Reid Goldsborough
Ideas about coin cleaning are interesting. Much about the general
revulsion in the U.S. coin collector community about cleaning coins is
a reaction to the harsh cleaning that damaged coins in the past, and
you frequently see people shout, "Never clean a coin!" But ancient
coins are routinely...

Top or Bottom Posting? by
James Higby
Since I have been posting here, I top post 95% of the time. But I know
there are some here who are mightily upset by top posting. I don't expect
unanimity on this issue, but what's anybody's choice and your logic behind
it?
James

Another reason why eBay sellers should lower their shipping charges! by
Jim Seymour
Warning: mini-rant
I decided recently to assemble a set of modern proofs in PCGS PR69DCAM
slabs. I set my price at $10 per coin - which is reasonable for most
varieties, but will take time to find on eBay.
Often, I will find a seller offering many different dates. One such
seller (lccoins)...

Gas: $2.079 a gallon by
Dr. Richard L. Hall
Yep! That was the gas price per gallon at a station that I often stop at in
Arlington, VA. A couple of weeks ago, it had dropped to $1.839. For every
gallon, that's 24 cents that I won't be able to look through for keelboat
nickels or cents or Iowa quarters. I'm...

Golden Dollar supply question by
Fred Shecter
I'm just curious. If you get GDs from the bank, please tell us what city/state and if you
are getting "commingled" (SBA/GD) or pure GDs. If you can take a stab at the ratio of SBAs
to GDs go for it and if you know what kinds of rolls you get (hand rolled, machine rolled
(paper), machine rolled...

Replicas: the redux topic by
Michael E. Marotta
From: Jim Wild )
Subject: rookie collector questions
Date: 2004-10-02 11:35:03 PST
Speaking of stunning pieces, we all know about the 1933 DE duplicate.
Now there is a $10 indianhead Eagle of the proof variety for $19.95 or
so. Are these duplicates just worthless,...

HELP! Won fake Ebay item, don't want to pay by
[email protected]
Recently I was high bidder on what was described as a 1936 US PROOF
TRIBUTE SET. Further research proved, after I had bid on the item
assuming it was a real 1936 Proof Set, that it was not.
Accorind to the Hobby Protection Act, such sets must be marked by
"copy" or "replica". I do not believe this...

Market vs. Technical Grading by
Son of the Beach
Just read a recent article in Coin World regarding technical vs. market
grading. I am still confused as to the difference. Now technical
grading seems straighforward. It's market grading that throws me for a
loop. According to the article PCGS, for example, states " A numerical
grade that matches...

Boycott CBS by
Michael Paranzino
CBS smeared our brave President with fake documents just weeks before
Election Day.
They coordinated their attack with the John Kerry campaign before
they aired their smear.
They covered up their coordination for 13 days until other media
outlets forced them to admit it.
Want your election...

I found this web site to be unique, disturbing but totally compelling.

interesting sense of humor?sarcasm? absurdity?
An interesting commentary anyway.
Don't think I have ever seen it posted here but then there

Trash talk by
thelivinglady
Maybe I am a naieve, old fashioned southern lady, but why would anybody
want to foul up a decent discussion group on the topic of numismatics
with filth? Some of the topics are embarrassing and I venture into the
message before I realize what it is. Dirty men with nothing better to
do, I suppose....

The Numismatist--Just Another Coin Rag? by
Fred A. Murphy
Along with the third grade art school reject for the logo, the ANA
redesigned the Numismatist, to get it updated to the times.
In an effort to get away from its reputation as a bunch of stodgy articles
of very limited interest, it's now taken the "hip" road and become much more
like a newsstand...

Poll: I don't get it.... by
Mark
All of us who collect coins have our favorites. Personally, I like to
collect Morgans by VAMs.
On the other hand, I am sure we all look at some aspect of the hobby,
and say to ourselves, HUH??!! I don't get it!
For example, I just don't get the registry set craze, especially for
modern business...

Is Jstonefeel okay? by
Alan & Erin Williams
I found this in my e-mail backlog:
"I received an e-mail today from a new
customer who says that he was recommended by Jim Feely (jstonefeel), who
he says passed away about a week ago from a heart attack. I hope
that's not true."
Does anyone know the accuracy of this?
