ABE - Badly Managed & Greedy? by
Shelf Space
Booksellers have long been unhappy with the fact that ABE started off
charging just a fixed rate 'shelf' fee before deciding to extract blood
proper by initiating a commission-system and credit-card handling
charges when they realised they had a virtual monopoly. Loyal
booksellers are being bled...

I am hoping you will be kind enough to give me a little guidance
where some of them are concerned. The...

Modern Library Opinion by
krik999
Hi.
I just saw the collection of an avid Modern Library collector. The
collection, over 2000 books (probably a little more than 800 titles) was
impressive- he had numerous copies of titles, some rarer illustrated
editions with slipcase, a large majority of first editions and even had the
more...

invest in the books. I have been doing some research and have
purchased the "easy" ones already, but am having trouble distinguishing
the true first prints, first editions with the American versions and
the UK versions. I was...

Paper labels on spine peeling at edges - pva glue? wheat paste? or ? by
someguy
I have a set of books from 1902 that have square paper labels at the head of
the spines with the author/title/vol info. The labels are very grungy, the
text is faded, and some of them are peeling off or chipping away from the
spine.
Is there a "best practices" repair for this? Is it best left...

First Edition Stats by
Denton Taylor
Greetings all:
I wonder if there is a source where one can find out the first print
run size of a first edition (?). I asked a friend in publishing and
she said the info is available to the trade but it is expensive for an
individual to buy. I'm hoping she's wrong.
Naturally I'm speaking of...
