Adjustable bookshelves--little metal things by
John P.
Do you know the term for the little metal things that hold up
adjustable bookshelves? I'd like to try to buy some online, but I am
having tremendous difficulty finding any.
I put a bookcase in storage for a few years, and now that I have taken
it out of storage, I can't find the little metal...

Book Deodorizer - Smoking Books! by
Art Layton
I just purchased ($12.50) a bottle of "Book Deodorizer" to use on some
books that came from a smoker's home. Instructions say to put book in
airtight container with a comparable amount of granules. Wait a few
days to a few weeks.
Will let everyone know whether this was successfu.

Interesting Service for Booksellers by
WB
There's a new service that will allow booksellers to append
bibliographic, auction, and other records to their online for sale
listings as footnotes. I would be interested in hearing any comments
from others as to whether this is a valuable idea or not significant.
It's the second article on the...

Newbie collector by
Ali
Hello All
I'm interested in books, always spent far too much time with my nose glued
to the page.... I've recently decided to attempt turning my habit into a
hobby. To move from reading (that's what libraries are for) to collecting.
I acquired some old books (nothing worth writing home about)...

Serial versions of novels - a question by
fraser and marie pakes
I have a 1st edition of a 19th century novel which is in serial form in
3 bound "Harper's" volumes, covering a period of 18 months. The contents
of the volumes are in good shape but the bindings and covers are not.
What are the pros and cons of extracting the various chapters of this
novel from...

Diamond, except that there is no price on the dust jacket. The publisher is
W.W. Norton, there is a complete number line and "edition" statement. Tthe
dust jacket states that the book is a selection of the Book-of-the Month...

Has anyone else received an email like this? by
Nobody
I received this email this morning. (I edited it for length. And the x's in
the address are mine too in case this is a legitimate message.) That Nigeria
address makes me nervous, with all the foreign scams going around. .... But
if it is, who'd want to target booksellers of all people. Go after...

Misprint? by
aace
I have been thinking about starting a used book business. Just out of
curiosity I grab a book off my bookshelf to checkout, and it seems to be
a misprint.
The book is Innovation and Entrepreneurship by Peter F. Drucker
Looks like a first edition first printing. The strange thing is the ISBN
on the...

Flaw or advantage? by
Jbrodie1750
Even if a book is "fine" I am under the impression that the presence of a book-
plate reduces the condition to "near fine." But what about a book that has the
book-plate of a fairly well known author? In this case the author is Paul
Horgan, who, while not exactly a celebrity, did win two Pulitzer...

Help with identifiying edition by
Tim Crawford
I recently picked up a copy of Haunted Ground by Erin Hart. My first
thought was that it was a book club edition because there is no price on the
jacket and on the back of the jacket are the digits "0503". The copyright
page however has all the information I would expect to find on a...

Winner for Most Inexplicable Bookdealer Shipping by
Lawrence Person
OK, this is something of a followup to the EBay ripoff thread. Let's see if
anyone can top this story for sheer, unbridled, PROACTIVE stupidity on the part
of a bookseller. (And mind you, not some random eBay feb; we're talking someone
who deals on ABE and Alibris.) Now, laziness I understand;...
