Old references on counterfeits by
Reid Goldsborough
Last week at the library among the references I found were two that
mentioned counterfeit coins in an interesting way.
In his 1879 paper for the Numismatic and Antiquarian Society of
Philadelphia titled "On the Falsifications of Ancient Coins," S.K.
Harzfeld writes, "It is indeed true that there...

Your Other Hobbies? by
Scottishmoney
Occasionally when I was a member of the Diablo Numismatic Society in
California we had an "Other Hobbies" night when we discussed our other non
numismatic hobbies.
Mine are model railroads, primarily the 1920's era Wabash and Southern
Pacific, and also plastic model aircraft, primarily 1920-1940's...

Whizzing coins - new info by
A.Gent
In a recent thread (or two) the interesting notion was rehashed, that "whizzing"
involves moving metal around the surface of a coin with the aid of a wire brush.
Fascinated at this seemingly absurd proposition, I asked a few questions.
A little light was shed on the notion, and some good points...

Baltimore show by
Reid Goldsborough
The show didn't seem as crowded today, Friday, as it usually is.
Saturdays are busier. I liked the new location in the Convention
Center, right across the street from Day's Inn, though the room seemed
to pick up more fumes from the street outside. Had a good show myself.
The only U.S. coin I bought...

Has Reid Goldsborough.....??? by
Phil DeMayo
......removed all of his posts from Google in which he has been critical of ACG?
Has he also removed a post in which he admitted to selling a counterfeit?
What a stand up guy....so brave.
Too bad he can't remove other people's quotes of those posts.

What to do now? by
dave a
I've been slowly liquidating my lifetime coin collection and have
submitted several of the better coins to NCG for grading. Today I got
the most recent batch back and my 1938-D Walker came back "Mintmark
Added". First, let me state categorically that I did not alter this
coin. I purchased...

Complete set of RCC tokens by
K6AZ
This is something I left out of the defense fund auction preview the
other day because I had not received all of them. Two very generous
donors have sent me a total of six tokens, five of which make up the
set. If you have missed any, this will be your chance to get them all at
once. The extra 5...

DAMN AOL TO HELL! by
Fred A. Murphy
Just got a second inquiry from a customer who is justifiably annoyed that I
didn't reply to her email. Heck of it is, I replied within three hours, at
almost midnight on Friday. The culprit? Guess who.
Here's what I explained to her. Anyone using AOL for business mail needs to
pay attention,...

Customer thinks I'm a liar, cheat & thief by
Wes Chormicle
Last week I had 2 or 3 different discussions with a man about the collection
his 80 year old mother had. This was a collection that had belonged to his
father with a few pieces from grandparents, etc. He stated that the
decision to sell would be his mother's and that she was too frail to bring
it...

Bye Bye Lincoln Cent! by
Fred
Well, I just picked up the new issue of CoinAGE and in an article they gave
a sienorage report for 2003.
The penny is now costing the Mint 9/10's of a cent to produce. I suppose it
won't be long until they change the cent to make it more profitable to
produce(like making it from alunimun)or...

OT Chrysta's New Kitty by

Chrysta goes and creates this:
New Kitty!
http://www.chrystawilson.com/kitty.html
She creates a page for her new cat(old cat still around after dropping her
laptop?) It appears as though from the looks of things, at least at this
point, this poor kitty is nameless.
