Numismatic Gifts for the Holidays by
Michael E. Marotta
Hanukkah Gelt is pretty easy. Kids like anything. You can give them
Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, and Indianhead cents in little bags
and you have given them "ancient" history as far as they are
concerned. You can buy packs of mixed foreign banknotes for $5, $10,
and $20 from ads in CW and NN....

20% buyers fee on Ebay "live" auctions by
JSTONE9352
Dang... that is just too much. I saw a few items that interested me in an
Early American auction but the opening bid along with the
20% buyers fee.... well forget it. Has anyone bought coins or anything else
in an Ebay "live" auction? Are they trying to discourage people from
bidding?

Record price on ebay? by
James McCown
Does anyone know the highest price for which a single coin has sold on ebay?
I'm not talking about the highest reserve or minimum, but the highest hammer price.
Does ebay keep any stats on that?

Coin Saver
Today's my birthday (Sunday) and I was given (among other things) a small stack
of Series 2001 CU $1 Notes from District 9/I - Fort Worth variety. More than I
need, I have a few extras.
Anyone still need any of these?

Anyone here know anything about this test? There is a Jefferson Nickel that

about it.

FA: That Rep.of Minerva coin you've always wanted by
Edwin Johnston
Found this today, the 1973 bimetallic Republic of Minerva coin. It's the 30
year anniversary of that example of 1970s excess. I sweetly recall those ads
for it in CoinAge magazine:

Blue Haze on Ike Question by
Keith Fletcher
So I bought the brown box proof Ikes from the gubmint when I was 14 years
old (!). I left them in their original packaging so of course they
developed the blue haze.
Now, is this haze actually destructive to the coin? Or could it eventually
turn into a neat blue toning? Should I get them out of...

Best circulation find EVER! by
Wes Chormicle
So tonight I'm sitting in the managers office doing some paper work and the
Customer Service girl calls me and says she has a funny looking quarter
(they all know I'm a collector). I think she says it's a 1960 and is it ok
to take it. I tell her yes and wander up to the front to take a look. ...

Found at Subway! by
Paul
After 11 months and 7 days (and WAY TOO MANY banks) of looking for a roll of
2003 dimes I found one tonight!
I ordered a sandwich from Subway at the local mall and got 22 cents change.
Both dimes were clean 2003P's. I asked the girl at the register if she had a
roll in the drawer I could buy for...

Mint searching for artists. by
David Hamilton
Sorry if this is old news, I saw it in the local paper today but the
press release is a week old
http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=469
it seems there are a few people here that would be naturals for this
program.

For Entertainment Only! by
Steve M
I was watching Robert Chambers on Coin Vault this morning and think
his show should have a disclaimer before going to commercial. "This
show is for entertainment purposes only". Do people really buy his
merchandise? Are they that misinformed (read stupid)?
How does this guy sleep at night?

OT-the weather outside is frightful.... by
phil
We're in a bit of a lull here on L.I.-about 6 inches on the ground right now
(5:30 am) but a blizzard warning issued for the rest of the day until 10 pm
tonight.
Metro traffic and weather is advising everyone to stay inside unless
absolutely neccessary, but they obviously don't take into account...
