"The Great War" book collecting by
Art Layton
If you were collecting books (fiction and non-fiction) about WWI (The
Great War), where would you start? These would have to be printed or
translated in english. Can you recommend dealers that specialize in
WWI books?

"The World's Classics" query... by
Jbrodie1750
Are "The World's Classics" published by the Oxford University Press considered
collectible?
I have half a mind to start collecting them. Would I be alone ...or are there
other nutcases out there who have already thought of this?

"We cannot disassemble a book in any way..." by
John Yamamoto-Wilson
We had a lot of discussion on rcb about dust jackets a few months ago. A
lot of people - especially Americans - insisted that, as long as it was the
same issue as the book, it really was an academic point whether a particular
dust jacket originally belonged to a particular book, i.e., it was fine...

"Friends of the Library" Book Sales by
Evelyn C. Leeper
Well, book sale season is upon us and there seem to have been some major
changes this year in the nature of "Friend of the Library" (FotL) book
sales (and other fund-raising sales).
For example, many FotL sales now ban scanners. While some people seem
to think the laser scanner is a liability...

"Improving" a first folio of the Bard by
Walter Traprock
Just a heads up, there's an amusing story about a first folio
of shakespeare being damaged by a talkative aunt in Edmund Pearson's
book, Books In Black Or Red, in a chapter called "The Lost First
Folio". I've also seen the story in some anthology in the Books On Books
section of the bookstore.

"Popery Exposed", By Ferdinando Petruccelli della Gattina by
Jeff Dege
I'm in the process of reshelving all my books, and sorting out what I
don't need for sale.
There are few items for which the local half-price store doesn't seem to
be the appropriate sale venue.
The book in the subject is one. Any ideas where I might find someone
interested in it? Or how I...

"The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Mathematics" -- ???? by
Prisoner at War
Hi, is there a math equivalent of the wonderful "Cambridge Encyclopedia
of Language" -- for mathematics??
I mean, anything like it, by anyone? I read that all the mathematics
currently known could fit 100K books...and I'm wondering why there
doesn't seem to be a nice little encyclopedia of math...

"Uncorrected Galleys" - What is this? by
David Harper
I just acquired the book: "Kerkorian: An American Success Story" by Dial
Torgerson. AbeBooks has two listings for hardcover editions of this book
with dust jackets for around $140. I am not sure what I have. It has a
green heavy paper cover with "Uncorrected Galleys" printed in big, bold
letters...

"Who is John Galt" (and what's he *really* worth) by
[email protected]
I'm curious if there is a way to find out what books published - since
say the 1940's on - are worth the most money.
I believe Mr. Gates paid quite a large sum for one of DaVinci's
surviving works, and although that in itself is an interesting topic,
I'm thinking more along the lines of books...

"Your United States" by Arnold Bennett. by
Al Smith
I've got what I believe may be the first edition of "Your United
States" by Arnold Bennett. Harper and Brothers Publishers, New
York and London, MCMXII . Unfortunately, when I bought it
the book was missing its cover, and its spine had been half gnawed
away by mice, so I had to re-bind it. I bound...
