I wonder....... by
Rod
When one looks at this stamp issue,
there is something familiar about the wispy pastel tones employed,
the superb draughtsmanship of the subjects.
This is illustration of high art.
Then note the name.
He shares a surname that brings recollections of
beautiful ladies that adorned the pages of...

#1849 Lippmann question by
Ed
I have a Walter Lippmann SC#1849, which isn't an imperf. pair, but
does have a significant amount of extra paper below the main design,
almost as if it was an imperf. pair with the bottom stamp cut off.
Does anyone know if this is also rare (and thus worth anything). The
imperf. pair is $2K!

After sorting some W.W. stamps, (In a 30 gallon barrel!), I found a
good amount of W.W. cut squares in the mix. We were discussing this

Most are used and they are cancelled or postmarked for the time period
issued. They range in time from the 1950s through recent. No...

Curiosity Corner #321: Hungary's Iron Crown. by
Rod
The Crown of Saint Stephen.
http://cjoint.com/data/flgPhwIY5n.htm
Called the "iron crown" as it has a band of iron around the
inside rim, supposedly crafted from a nail from the crucifix.
I have always wondered the jaunty angle of the cross
on the crown, I suppose reflecting on the suffering of...

A new search text string could be "sunburst"
Someone is yanking our leg methinks,
this does not correspond with my Stanley Gibbons image.
Uruguay "Diligencia" (stagecoach)

FYI, the "sunbust" was a feature of the doorway to
the french 1921 Exposition hall.

Vikings ~ just like yesterday. by
Rod
Mette would have enjoyed Tony Robinson's "Time Team"
excavation on the telly last evening.
They had a 3 day dig at "Yorvick" (York)
and uncovered (amongst a plethora of finds)
a beautiful (and regal) glass bead from Reba Denmark, and
would you believe it, the leather upper from a Viking boot
900...

FREE Plate Number Singles, Etc. - Used by

Hi -
After going through some U.S. stamps, I found some plate number

I'm passing them on to someone who would want...

Stockbook pages but not in stockbooks by
John Mycroft
Does anyone know where I can buy stockbook pages that aren't in
stockbooks? I want typical stockbook pages - glassine strips mounted on
card - but want to keep em in 3 ring binders. It seems like I spend
half my life filling a 16 page stockbook with something and then having
to move it all to...
