bakelite and ink compatibility? by mz
Recently, a Sengbusch inkstand with a self-closing inkwell came my way. It seems to be 1930s vintage. While cleaning the bakelite self-closing mechanism, I noticed some deterioration of its surface. Putting this down to corrosive inks of years gone by, I began wondering about the effects of modern...

Anatomy of Mr. PENMART01 by Portvrij
I have never seen Mr. PENMART01, but does one need to see someone to have an idea of him? Mr. PENMART01 is not made of flesh and blood. Mr. PENMART01 is a fountain pen, a highly limited edition. In fact, there has been made only one pen ever. It's a reliable fountain pen that doesn't write much,...

Next Thurs 7/22 - Long Island Pen Club meeting by Nancy Handy
Those of you local to Long Island are already aware of next Thursday's July 22nd L.I. pen club meeting because you've no doubt witnessed the propeller plane carrying our pen club banner past the expanse of sandy area beaches. What's better than sitting on the beach in a lounge chair and reading a...

Noodlers Ink in the UK by Tony Stanford
Hi - Does anyone know if Noodlers is sold in the UK yet? I know Chuck is willing to ship to the UK, but the cost of postage for heavy items like ink bottles is prohibitive. Tony -- ******* email sent to this address is automatically discarded *******

Fountain Pen Hospital by Nancy Handy
I stopped by FPH on Tuesday. I had forgotten how pretty the Fountain Pen Hospital store is in NYC. Aside from the temporary scaffolding outside, the inside looks like a fountain pen museum. There are dozens of lighted glass displays filled with fountain pens. It's great to walk into a large store...

stain removal tips by DaveW
I did a bad thing. I put my Sheaffer Triumph Imperial (by far the best $12 pen I've ever encountered!) in my shirt pocket with the cap posted. The ink is from one of the black cartridges that came with the pen. They are not marked like they were in the old days, so I can't tell if it is supposed...

Pen eccentricities by Winter Wind
Well, I have had a great many people offer pens AFTER I had mine out, sometimes after I had begun writing. Usually it is an automatic response on their part, and a polite smiling "I've got my own" doesn't hurt any feelings. If you already have your pen out, they are far less likely to be insulted...

Does the Pelikano have an ink reservoir above its section? by R. Paul Martin
I went a little wild and bought several fountain pens on line recently. I inked them all yesterday to see how they write, and if they write. I put a long international cartridge into a Pelikano and it wrote all right after a while, although it was not as smooth as I'd like. And after a little...

Pen Protocols and Lore by C.
A thing I have noted throughout my life is a behaviour I thought childish concerning pen usage, and I am curious if anyone else has noted it. In cases where some "unpleasant" transaction has occurred, the person preparing the document or instrument offers his or her pen to the other party to use....

Stub nib availability by Thore Karlsen
I'm looking to buy a new pen, and after practicing calligraphy with a straight italic nib I'd prefer a stub nib. I think my handwriting looks much better with the line variation. However, looking online for pens of various types it doesn't seem like stub nibs are commonly offered. I could have it...
