Longfellow Signature by
Daniel
I was wondering if somebody might help me identifying a signature. It
is a longfellow signature, but likely not Henry W. Longfellow or his
wives, since it appears to be from June of a year at or after 1888.
You can view it at http://www.bluewombat.com/images/longfellow.jpg.

Visual Aids - Remainder and Edge Marks by
Doug McClure
Random House also used a rubber stamp -- of a house -- similar to the
Simon and Schuster's stamp.
I believe that some publishers put a sticker on the book. I can't
remember which publishers, but as I recall the sticker was a small
bright green. The sticker is fairly easy to remove.
Also, some...

What about the artists? was Copying dustjacket blurbs by
Scrooge
If you are going to argue against the use of blurbs, you would also have to
take a stand against using pictures of the dustjacket or book itself. You
would be using that picture to profit without giving the artist his/her
credit. The jacket, more often than not, is attributable and is rarely...

Shock Horror ! by
diane.walker
Someone just e-mailed me to let me know how much he enjoyed reading the book
he bought of me on ebay. I immediately informed him that books bought from
me are for collectors only, and should not be opened under any
circumstances.
This whole episode gave me a nasty turn. I'm just off to iron my...

Copying dustjacket blurbs by
Richard Moriarty
Grey area on use of (attibuted) dustjacket blurbs in book descriptions.
William Klimon, Robert, Denise Enck and Bud Webster argue that it's ok.
Pat O'Brien argues (compellingly) that it's not ok.
Please excuse my quoting people's opinions and I apologise if that's
inappropriate or I got it...

Exlibris Newsgroup Where? by
Old-Books
I have just finished reading a book about antiquarian book collecting

I believe that the group is maintained by the university of Berkeley.

Plagerism by
diane.walker
I have noticed that you get quite a lot of posts on the subject of plagerism
on this newsgroup. Ebay sellers like me seem to get the most stick for
stealing other peoples descriptions of books. Are not dealers on Addall and
Abe not commiting pagerism. They take the description from the jacket...

Collecting word books by
William M. Klimon
We have spoken here of the collecting of dictionaries and of slang. I have
a mild mania for books of words--dictionaries, glossaries, collections of
proverbs and quotations, gazetteers, etc. I guess, I just take them as they
come--although I've sought out a few on occasion.
In last week's Jay's...

I'm a Ray Bradbury fanatic. Anyway, a friend sent me an email that
there is a signed leather bound copy of Fahrenheit 451 on Ebay with no

can't seem to find the item in a search. Can anyone help? Thanks....

Pynchon - "Gravity's Rainbow" by
Art Layton
Picked up a copy to read from the library yesterday. After 75 pages of
reading, still can't find a plot or understand any of the characters.
Am I missing something? Why is this book so collectible? Will start
Proust tomorrow.
