Snowy RCC? by
Bruce Remick
Are most of you folks out there snowed in easterners? Not much RCC action
this weekend. If you're like me, you spent part of the day shoveling and
the other part recuperating. 24+ inches on my 50' driveway in the N.
Virginia suburbs. I'll tackle the sidewalk tomorrow. No snow plow yet....

Hate Crimes Bill Will Criminalize Free Speech by
Cindi LaFontaine
Democrats in the House passed so-called hate crimes legislation and the bill
is now on the fast track to the Senate.
It must be stopped, now, before liberals succeed in sneaking it
through the Senate!
Proponents of this so-called hate crimes legislation tell you that it
cannot be...

ANA to Investigate the Newsgroup Trolls by
Dr. Frank Laiacona
I talked to the ANA legal dept and they ageed to see if they can do anything
to stop these horrible people who have infiltrated this newsgroup.
Rec.collecting.coins is an official coin club of the Amerucan Numismatic
Association, which is chartered by Congress. These jerks picked the wrong
group...

Ancient History Question by
MDB
Hello,
I am considering studying 3 electives of ancient history for my arts
degree. I thought it would be a great foray into ancient life and
advance my numismatic interests.
Has anyone else studied ancient history formally? Has anyone studied
Latin or ancient Greek? Advice welcome.
Any...

Replicas vs. forgeries by
Reid Goldsborough
There's been some pretty heated, and confused, discussion here lately
over the difference between coin replicas and counterfeits. The
simplistic answer is that a replica is marked as such with "COPY" or a
similar countermark. But this would be incorrect.
The U.S. Hobby Protection Act mandates that...

Q. David Bower's lack of ethics by
RF
I wonder how much the Little Coin Company paid Bowers for his
sweetheart column in the last issue of Coin World?
But I guess his ethics are typical of coin dealers as exemplified by
everyone's idol, Ira.

1916-D Mercury Dime GD-6 at $12000 revisted by
Ira Stein
Remember this one?
http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3900997100
The seller (Fred the Numismatist?) gloated here on RCC when he received a very
high amount for a coin simply graded a nice Good, but the winning bidder
contacted me on another matter today.
In our conversation...

Ain't history great by
Reid Goldsborough
Thought I'd share some more of what I've been uncovering about a
recent coin purchase, some history that I at least find incredibly
compelling, history that goes well beyond this one coin and is a bit
controversial too.
First, here's the coin again, the third and last one on this...

$1 coin chances now by
Michael G. Koerner
Any thoughts on the chances of the USA dropping the $1 banknote within the
next few years now that one of their biggest champions (Edward M. Kennedy,
D-MA) is no longer in the USSenate?

The joys of numismatic research by
Reid Goldsborough
Anybody have some "knowledge finds" they'd like to share. With me,
acquiring information and knowledge is every bit as rewarding as
acquiring coins.
Case in point. Last night, in finishing reading through information
from articles and books I've collected but hadn't yet gotten to, I
uncovered some...

Mottoes on US coins by
Stefano MacGregor
I think we should bring back some of the mottoes used on early US
coins, because they can still inspire us.
I would especially like to see "MIND YOUR BUSINESS".

Opinions on cashing out some silver by
[email protected]
Okay... I have made arrangements to sell my small cache of silver for
10x face for the pre-1965 coins and 4x for the 40% Kennedys. I have
worked out that the break-even point for the silver is $13.82, as as I
write this, the price is $13.57. What is the opinion of "all y'all"
about such a sale:...

#@$%! by
The Fausts
My entire coin collection was stolen yesterday! Someone just kicked in the
front door (in clear line of sight of several other houses) in broad
daylight and had a little shopping spree in my house. Things could have been
worse since they avoided anything bulky or heavy, but they found...

USA Today says dump the penny by

Even the mainstream media is realizing continuing making the penny makes
no sense. Here's an editorial from USA Today from July 11.

The editorial also has a real-life repudiation of the "rounding to the
