Coins For Sale by Beanie[_2_]
"Pogonip" wrote in message ... I am not a fan of Frank, nor of spam on amoe. But looking at this header and the message, I seriously doubt Frank sent it. Frank seems to find enemies everywhere he goes. He kept breaking the rules on eBay,...

Japan news... by Beanie[_2_]
According to AP: "To lessen the damage, Japan's central bank made two cash injections totaling 8 trillion yen ($98 billion) Tuesday into the money markets after pumping in $184 billion on Monday. Initial estimates put repair costs in the tens of billions of dollars, costs that would likely add...

Local coin shows redux by Beanie[_2_]
Went this morning to a nearby coin and stamp show which is held 2x a month. All the usual suspects were there, mostly overweight, middle-aged white guys with varying degrees of personal hygiene. I know they expect to negotiate the prices but it's difficult to negotiate with anyone who initially...

US dollar minting question by Hp
per my usual habits, the last time we visited the bank for a transaction I requested some halves, $2 bills and any dollar coins for change. We got a full roll of Andrew Johnsons, wrapper also marked as such. Since I usually get a mix of nice to circulated loose coins, we usually just spot check...

is grading service worth it for $1 FRN by Hp
while going thru the remains of parents stuff we discovered a very nice looking $1 FRN 1935A Hawaii star note. Is this probably worth having it graded by one of the services that does currency? I had a note with it saying who they got it from in 1944.

Clueless eBay sellers by Beanie[_2_]
I've just been perusing eBay for Canadian silver dollars and I'm shocked, shocked to see how many clueless sellers there are there. Asking $100 for common 1970s .500 fine commemorative dollars in crappy ICG holders. Most, if not all, the time you'd be lucky to sell those coins at melt.

Is this guy a crook? by GritsMan
As an experiment, I walked into a local B&M place today that seems to specialize in gold and silver. I plonked down $10 worth of 40% halves and asked his buying price. After a diligent look at his computer, he said "Fifty dollars." "Fifty dollars!" I exclaimed, barely keeping from laughing. "I...

Coin Show Capers by Beanie[_2_]
Went to a local coin club's annual coin show this morning. Got several bargains and enjoyed the displays. One "dealer" was offering a 1938 Canada silver dollar for $175. The 38 is a semi-key worth about $200 in MS62. I took a look at the coin and mentally graded it as an average VF with a few too...

Error note? by randiR
I was shown a 1993 $1 FRN that was around 10% smaller than a normal note. Nothing was cut off and it was well centered. And it was a star note. My instinct says it was fake, very heavily worn like it went thru a washing machine to give it a well-circulated look. so it was hard to detect any...

Conch Republic coin? by Erik McCrea
Dear Group, I am seeking one of the Conch Republic coins (Key West, FL; they seceded from the U.S. in 1982); there is one that says "Conch Republic Forever" and "In Conchs We Trust" on the coin. And there is another charnming one that is made to look like a shipwreck-style coin. Does anyone in...

Local Meijer Grocery Store Refuses Presidential Golden Dollar Coins by Drago the Wolf
Okay, Here's the situation. I went to the credit union to cash in my check, and get some odd money (halves, dollar coins, $2 bills) and they had $18 in $2 bills, $40 in halves, and thousands of dollars in Presidential GDs. I bought all of the halves, $2s and $100 in GDs. Well, later on, I took the...

Can someone please tell me how you would figure the cash/silver value of the Kennedy half dollars? Is there a formula related to the current price of silver? 1964 - 90% silver = ? 1965-1969 If I recall correctly it's 70% silver in these years. Please do correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks in...
