"The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Mathematics" -- ???? by Prisoner at War
Hi, is there a math equivalent of the wonderful "Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language" -- for mathematics?? I mean, anything like it, by anyone? I read that all the mathematics currently known could fit 100K books...and I'm wondering why there doesn't seem to be a nice little encyclopedia of math...

Book Machine, France. by Hervé JEZEQUEL
Hello to all. I have been reading you carefully for a while, before I decided it was time to ask you some questions. I'm about (in two, three months) to open a little bookshop in Amiens, France, kind of specialized in english/american books. Second-hand only. I wasn't able to spare enough money...

worms by Jack Campin - bogus address
I just found a small wormtrack in a book I bought new two years ago. So far no sign of any others. Any ideas for dealing with the little *******s? Could the egg have been in the book when I bought it? It came from a rather unusual place with a very different climate to here (kiosk bookstall...

Scary Book Stats by michael adams
Presumably, approximately the same percentages would apply to the UK. Assuming the figures bear any relation to reality that is, and haven't already been totally discredited. quote Who is Reading Books (and who is not) One-third of high school graduates never read another book for the rest...

Stephen King The Shining by T@home
I have a nice copy of above mentioned book. I'm having trouble figuring out if it is a book club edition or not. One clue is that it doesn't have a price on the inside flap of dust jacket. I does not state book club edition nor does it say first edition on the copyright page. It merely states...

A site with top 10 book lists by [email protected]
This site is pretty cool. It has lists of top 10 books on topics like business (marketing, leadership), family and home (gardening, cooking), and technology. For example, if you don't want to waste time figuring out which are good books on php or marketing, this site really helps because it greatly...

Fun at B&N by Denton Taylor
So, I was looking to pick up a copy of Isabelle Allende's latest in preparation for an upcoming NYC signing. Stopped in the B&N Chelsea to grab one. I went thru a stack of over twenty without finding a single copy that didn't have a spine crush top, bottom, or both. Disgusting. Next stop, my local...

what editions of Yeats's Collected Poems were there? by Jack Campin - bogus address
We have a "Collected Poems" of W.B. Yeats published by T. Fisher Unwin with no date. (Dark green cloth, art nouveau gold tooling). There's a 1912 date on one of the prefaces, but the book has nothing from "The Green Helmet" (1910). So. When was it published, and why the...

A brag by Francis A. Miniter
I think I did well today. J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye. Little, Brown, 9th printing, August 1951 in truly fine condition, black boards, bright gilt on spine, no bumping, no marking. With a bright dust jacket ($3.00 price) in at least very fine condition, having only an 1/8 inch tear...

Jacket variants by my-wings
I just ran into something a little interesting with a book I was considering listing called *Toyer* by Gardner McKay. I had two copies of the first edition, and I was checking prices on eBay when I noticed that the stock photo didn't match my copy. (The cover is primarily a frame-filling...

Here's a neat way to find obscure books on ebay by Dave
It happens all the time -- someone misspells their item when they list it on ebay. As a result, people who spell it correctly will never find the misspelled item in their search. Well, I have a site that will take your search term, figure out a zillion ways to misspell it, and send you off to...

Penny-Ante Pests & the ALP by [email protected]
A number of dealers have exressed annoyance at a situation on Amazon which occurs something like this: Dealer A has a book he feels he can sell profitably for $14, which gives him the ALP, the Amazon Low Price. Dealer B, who had listed another copy at $15.50, re-lists the same item, not at...
