Cool new Pilot - Vortex by
Speebob
This is a brand new Pilot pen that just came out in I think 2003. It's the
Pilot Vortex. It's a kind of updated version of the Japanese "big cap"
style pens like the Elite. You likely haven't seen it unless you've been to
Asia lately. We don't have it here in the US and it's to bad as this is...

Old vs. new Parkers? by
Timothy R. Bonine, M.D.
Setting aside their historic appeal & collectability, how do Parker 51 pens
stack up as writers (smoothness, quality of contruction, ergonomics) with
newer models like the Sonnet and Frontier? I have never handled a 51, but I
have two 45s that are good writers (though a little too light for...

The Three Little Pigs -- NY Style by
PENMART01
Once upon a time there were three little pigs. The straw pig, the
stick pig, and the brick pig.
One day this nasty old wolf came up to the straw pig's house and
said, "I'm gonna huff and puff and blow your house down." And he
did!!!
So the straw pig went running over to the stick pig's house...

Non-Gravity-Fed Mech Pencil by
Mike S.
I use a number of 0.5mm mechanical pencils, and am sick to death of one
issue with their feed systems. At the point in between the last few mm of
a spent lead, and the beginning of the new lead behind it ... things
stall. You sit there, shaking and pushing the lead advance button, and
eventually...

New Pen Ink Technology by
Nancy Handy
I picked up some brand new gel pens called Sakura Glaze pens. They look
like regular rollerball pens, but the ink raises up on it's own after
you write slowly with it (ex. if you draw a spiral and let it dry for
about one minute, you can not only see it, but you can feel the spiral
with your...

Mechanical Pencil by
Henry
Hello all,
I'm trying to find a mechanical pencil to replace my old staedtler technical
that died. Turns out they don't make one like that anymore. So I need
alternatives. So far I've found Faber Castell TK Vario, Koh-I-Noor
Rapidomatic and a bunch of Staedtlers I'm not sure I like.
Keep in mind...

looks rather like what Jonathan describes... by
david isaacson
A british DF in what i'd call a vertical herringbone pattern, but
heck, i didn't write the book, so if he wants to call it basketweave
who be me to disagree.
I have a pink herringbone and a helical green herringbone senior at
home that are in same family.
British DF's come in boatload of colors...

Parker Convertor by
Doki
I bought a convertor for a cheap Parker I bought to tide me over whilst my
ATX is being fixed today. It's got a plastic plunger which is fixed to a
slider rather than being a screw mechanism, and when I rinsed it a fair bit
of water managed to get behind the plunger.
Are they all this horrible?

Any hope? by
Shuttermutt
Greetings all! I'm hoping for some good news here. It seems my Parker
51 fell into the hands of my wife... twice. The first time she jammed
the cap on and, while attempting to remove it, apparently twisted the
nib in the shell. The second time, while we were moving, she had
actually THROWN IT AWAY...

Dropped my 51 by
John B. Egger
For the second time since I began using my childhood Parker 51 Special,
I have dropped it onto a hard floor. It was capped, and landed on the
cap, but apparently there's not an effective stop inside. I had a
difficult time removing the cap (finally wrapping a rubber band around
it for friction),...

fountain pen feed material, especially Pelikan pen ink feeds by
Charles Ackerman
I'm curious about the material used to make fountain pen feeds. It seems to
vary from one pen to the next. Some material is plastic, other is rubber,
and they all have different propensities for ink flow. The ink feeds in
Pelikan pens seem to have the best flow of all, especially the...
