Pest Control in Books by
yipwon
I thought I would present the results of my simple experiments with
"natural" pest control in some of my books.
I have some of my good books in an old glass fronted bookcase. Occasionally
I noticed silverfish in some of the books - not really an infestation but
certainly something to worry...

Bookshelf Design Questions by
Joe Todd
Can anyone advise on the dead load weight bearing requirements for
bookshelves, and any reasonable number to use for an average book width? I
need to determine the shelving length and any extra support requirements for
the weight of approximately 6,000 books.
Thanks in advance.

Brag & Thanks by
Doug McClure
I have a brag and thanks for r.c.b.
Today I had a ball at a garage sale. From what I heard, the landlord
of an rental building was selling abandoned property left in the
garage. It was a backyard full of junk, including a dozen boxes of
books. Unfortunately, many books were badly damaged, to some...

Americana 109: The Last Word by
Jerry Morris
I am a sucker for bibliographical challenges. This last one really
wasn't that hard to solve, and it didn't cost too much either; but it
sure is goinng to take a long time to tell you about my research into
this book though!
I have it in front of me now, a book bound in period binding...

Hello-
I recieved a collection of the works of Charles Dickens (32 books) and
would like to know if someone could point me to a web site that might
have comprehensive information regarding this collection.
As far as I can tell the publication dates on the books are from the
early 1900's and were...

safe storage of old books by
dh
I have some very valuable old books (1850--1930) as well as some very
valuable newer ones (1940--1975) and bought a small business safe to
store them in. The safe owners manual says that for documents,
humidity can be a problem (because it's a fire safe), and they should
be stored in airtight...

eBay spoofs by
John Yamamoto-Wilson
This will probably be old hat to some people, but in the last couple of
days I've had several spoof e-mails purporting to be from eBay. The spoofers
are getting better at the game, so people new to this may be fooled. This is
the text of one of the spoofs I received, accompanied with the eBay...

Book: fantasy/fiction trying to find. by
Brian Heward
I'm trying to find the author or title of a book I read back in high school.
I'll give you as many key points as I can remember:
there seemed to be a series on interconnected stories:
There was a White bearded story teller who told kids stories in the town
square and wrote on a wall with mud so...

A Brag, Abridged Edition. by
Jerry Morris
In the thread, A Lesson In Bibliography, January, 2003, I related how
Sandy Malcolm helped me identify a dictionary that I bought for less
than ten dollars. The dictionary was missing its covers, its title page
and thirty-one other leaves. I was able to identify it as a Johnson's
Dictionary, but...

Sunday at an antique mall I picked up a copy of Updike's Rabbit is Rich

closely can't decide if I have a book club or a First Edition. The
dustjacket has the $13.95 price on the front flap, a 9/81 date on the rear
flap and...
