Scot Kamins at BookThink by
Jon Meyers
The current issue of the online newsletter BookThinker features an
interview with original RCB proponent, and Modern Library collector
extraordinaire, Scot Kamins: http://www.bookthink.com/0060/60kam1.htm
The interview is all about--What else?--ML collecting. Bonus: A picture
of Scot with that...

A is for Alibi (Sue Grafton) by
mdobson
Hi All,
Picked up a F/VG copy of "A is for Alibi" at my local used book store.
Problem is, it has gray boards. The only references I can find tell
of "red" boards. Can anyone tell me if this is a first/first, or a
later printing?

Ghost ISBN by
mdobson
Hi All,
I seem to have found a book with a non-existent ISBN! :-)
Patricia D. Cornwell's "Body of Evidence"
ISBN 0-684-19240-5
The only mention I can find on the net is from some library's card
catalog (no price mentioned, natch'.)

Remainders of the Day by

Interesting article on the remainder business--it's a lot like scouting
but on a macro-scale:

How do you tell if it's a first edition by
Ruby
I have a book called The Long Journey Home by Mary Raymond. It was
first published in 1967. The first publishing and the copyright date
are the same. I believe it could be a first edition, but I just got
into book collecting so I really don't know how to tell if it is a
first edition. Could...

Book stench, how do I get rid of the smell by
JMC
Found a great box of books at an auction, only problem is they all smell. I
haven't found any mold or mildew or discoloration, they just stink. Any
simple solution. The smell is similar to mildew or dampness. It appears
the smell transferred from the box, but the books reek. Any help...

Confession Time... by
Willow Arune
A terrible confession - I am a "completist". I find a write I like and
nothing will stop me for finding first editions of every last one of his or
her books and reading the complete works form start to finish. Compulsion
leads me to do this several times, before I really tire of the writer...

How do find the value of this set of antique books? by
Keegen
I found a local dealer who is selling a set of 8 books titled
"Shakespeare's Plays and Poems" edited by John Payne Collier in 1844.
I've haven't been able to find much on the web, how can I find a
approximate value for this set?

market forces: resalers; son of fad by
John Machin
I don't share xerlome's attitude to "resalers" ... I'm quite happy not
to chase around "thrifts" which in any case never seemed to have had
anything worth looking at. I've very happy for the bookseller's scouts
to have risen early on Saturday mornings and rummaged through all the
stuff at school...

Donating Collections to Libraries by

In another thread, i mentioned that i am building a large collection of
dictionaries of all kinds which i have been intending to ultimately
leave in trust to an appropriate library for public use. Admittedly, i
don't know whether or how my intentions would work. Has anyone any
actual knowledge...
