Battle of Britain - Slightly OT by Tracy Barber
Just watched the "Battle of Britain". Bob would love this movie, will all the areo-acrobatics and dogfights. Amazing what a few did for so many. In the movie (and we were discussing this before), there were a few philatelic items: In the beginning, the Germans were riding along some road,...

Where is this "(RCSD)" crap coming from? by Nick Knight
When I first saw subjects with the RCSD letters in them, I didn't stop to analyze, I simply assumed it was some type of spam. In believe I had it kill-filed for some time, then the kill entry expired. And when it did, the threads with these chars in them disappeared. yes! But now they're back...

Stamp collection appraisal by Viel Spass
I am taking my German and US stamp collections to get them appraised next week. I plan on going to my library and use the Scott catalog to get a rough idea of what they are worth. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy

(RCSD) Sales venues that don't suck? by Joshua McGee[_3_]
1. eBay: Arrogant and/or unreachable staff, and they take all your money on small sales. 2. StampWants: Arrogant staff, and a founder who believes the United States deserves dozens of specialized categories and most other countries (e.g., Vietnam) zero (check out...

Ebay - Pet Peeves by HakenKreuz
A couple of pet peeves about dealing with Ebay sellers: Sellers having so-called "private bidders" One never knows whether these are shills for the seller Unknown Reserved Price by the seller. One never knows what it is and one can bid a reasonable offer but not get the lot. For both of the...

Charkhari~Bhopal. by rodney
Tony, I found that cancellation. It turned out to be Bhopal, I must have browsed my stock book and related the mauve to Charkari after you brought their neon colours to my attention. http://cjoint.com/data/jdjNKmQgre.htm It was a rather officious looking impression for such a small town Ichhawar...

Sickening Spam by Mette
I am sick and tired! Not only receiving spam at my normal address, but as of late also at addresses that don't concern me, such as amc (at) ..., gabriel (at) ..., amaersk (at) ..., all (at) ..., maniac (at) ..., colporteurs (at) ... etc. I know, it's easy to hit the delete-button, but why the...

Kudos to Scott Catalog by Ralphael1
I have often faulted Scott Catolog for one reason or another. Tonight while resting the easy chair scanning a Scott Catolog I realized that there is a massive amount of work poured into these catalogs. How they maintain a fairly good listing of many Nations new stamp issues is mind boggling,...

Mette passed away last night. by Toke Nørby
At 4 pm today Ann Mette Heindorff's step daughter phoned me with the sad news that Mette passed away last night. She lost the fight against a lung cancer. May she rest in peace. Mvh Toke -- Posthistorikere / slægtsforske Bogen om 4300 danske postfolk 1624-1927:

Hello friends, I am building up a webpage (non-commercial) with images and a little information about my stamps. I use Scott catalogues to identify and find some info about the stamps to be placed on the webpage, but there are some stamps I can't find in Scott catalogues so I need some...

Deegam v SG or SG v Deegam by Robin Goodwin
I am collector of GB Machin definitives and booklets and use the Deegam Handbook as a reference guide. Most of my stamp purchases are made using eBay where sellers tend to list items using SG numbers. Does anyone have, or know of, an available list of Deegam against the equivalent SG reference...

Album page problem.... by WhoCares
I decided to make my own album pages from templates I downloaded from a website. I bought some quality acid-free, linen finish ivory cardstock paper which is 80lb weight. It prints out great on my laser printer but cause it's so thick it bends almost into a U-shape when it comes out of the printer....

Hi, Is the value of a block of 20 simply 20 times the value of a single stamp, or is there a premium associated with the block? Thanks, Scot Kamins -- Currently liquidating a collection of US slabs

Photographing Stamps by Chris Brooks
Hi, I'm about to start a new project that involves taking relatively high resolution macro shots of old stamps. Thought I would cast a general line out asking for advice - problems people have run into, innovative solutions dreamed up, and links to galleries anyone might have created. Thanks...

DVD/CD Album/Inventory by Dakota
Any suggestions about the following idea would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to purchase a CD/DVD burner to catalog my stamps. I would take a single scan of individually issued stamps - or a single scan of an entire set (assuming the entire set would fit on my scanner bed). I would also like...

Pontius Pilate on Stamps? by Mette
A collector friend in Germany has sent me a very extraordinary Christmas present: a book about Pontius Pilate, of whom the legend persistently says that he was born in the small Franconian town Forchheim, in the proximity of Nuremberg in Germany. The historical role of Pilate is well known. One...

email has become courriel (in French) by A.M.Heindorff
The French Ministry of Culture recently ordered the replacement of the English term "e-mail" with its French equivalent, "courriel," in all government documents, publications, and Web sites. The new term is a blend of courrier "mail" + el from electronique "electronic". The order originated in the...
