The record 10% price rise by USPS was struck down by Victor Manta
"A record 10% price rise in the U.S. Postal Service’s 50-cent “Forever” stamp was struck down by a federal appeals court, which sided with a San Francisco man who said the arbitrary boost set an improper benchmark for future increases in the cost of mailing a...

Does the position stamps have been stuck to an envelope reduce orincrease it's value? by [email protected]
I would like to know whether the way stamps have been stuck to an envelope give different values to the cover? That is if the stamp/s have been stuck to the top right corner gives more value to the envelope compared to having been stuck to the top left corner or bottom right/left corner or even...

valuating stamps by helloworld
Hi, through unpredictable happenstance, I happened to be in a position to "inherit" a sizeable collection of stamps, perhaps numbering about 3000-4000 items. I am not a regular collector, so all shorts of questions come up, at moments. As of now, there is no need or incentive to sell or exhibit...

Mystic Stamp Co. by Beanie[_3_]
I sent away for the Mystic color catalog of US stamps recently. It arrived along with some old used US stamps (which I returned unopnened.) The catalog is really quite a work of art, with great photography. However, Mystic's prices seem to be very high. Far higher than I've been paying for stamps...

Observations from the scanner. by Rodney
Nicaraguan 1890 loco and telegraph set. The master die impression must have been "enhanced" for all the Peso values. I note the 2 peso green is the only issue that missed shading in the value tablet, and the 1 peso has a different frame. Just thought I would share that with you :)

Used recent stamps worth more than mint stamps or not? by Joe
I would like to know what you think of mint & used stamps. In Scott (USA) & Yvert & Tellier (French) catalogue both mint & used stamps have the same value, ( more recent ones from 1980 to nowadays) & in Stanley Gibbons, it is the contrary, that is recent used stamps have more value than mint (in...

Your experience please... by gogu[_11_]
Hi all! Since I've recently started collecting stamps (I've collected stamps as a young boy but randomly and most of them cancelled), I have a few dumb questions: 1) is there a guide for new collectors like the one for coins "Coin Collecting for Dummies" or similar? I want (mostly) to learn the...

Best software for archiving stamps. by gogu[_10_]
Hi all! After I've asked a few months ago for your opinion on stamps catalogues and received useful info, now I'd like to ask what software you are using in order to archive your collection. I'm using for years Paul Dembowski's (Liberty Street Software) "CoinManage" program for my coin...

Nigerian scam has become Dutch scam! by A.M.Heindorff
I have just received one of these endless scams, this time not from a "prince something" somewhere in Africa, but from a seemingly Dutch person, allegedly representing the Economic Society of Netherlands Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and sent from the British provider .tiscali.co.uk. I am amazed...

(RCSD) Question About U.S. Precancels by [email protected]
Howdy - Doo... Does anyone know if there were ever any hand stamped precancels? I have the precancel catalogs from the Society, but don't have them available at the moment. I see cancels that "look" like precancels, but they look more like parcel cancels - rectangular, with city and state...

Interesting WWII Cover... by Bob Watson
I know that some of you are interested in WW2 covers and a member of our stamp club brought in one tonight that even caught my attention! It was an Australian airmail cover with a Japanese stamp surrounded by Australian stamps and postmarked "HMAS Hobart". Posted on the day of the signing of the...

Third Reich Stamp Group. Was: THIRD REICH STAMPS GROUP by Victor Manta
Jawohl, Herr Kellogg, drei mal ist perfekt, da alle gute Dinge sind drei, wie bekannt! (Translation: Yes, Mr. Kellogg, three times is perfect, because all good things are three, as known). It's an old German proverb. A short notice: why shouldn't be the same postings repeated in their...

Miniature Sheet...MNH or not MNH?... by gogu[_11_]
There is a seller advertising a Mini Sheet which comprises 6 stamps in it. In the item description he says it's MNH but there are post office seals placed over the 6 stamps! Sure, the post office seals look very odonate and look like they are placed by a machine and not by hand. But they are...

Task bar five and start up 15 items. No Norton, Firewall or other speed bumps. I only do minimal email,...
