Curiosity Corner #292: The high wire act. by
Rod
Continuing the Charles Babbage seam,
like all geniuses, and humans, they are fallible.
Take for example, Babbage's variation on a theme
closely aligned to the pneumatic post, by suggesting
wires and drums to carry the mail,
(main desire to reduce the then, "tuppenny post")
..... and from the top of...

Curiosity Corner #292: "Where's a policeman when you need one?" by
Rod
A similar frustration, was voiced 175 years ago,
by the first computer geek, Charles Babbage,
but with more of a Philatelic flavour, when he
outlined the problems with hiding postboxes
from the general public.
He may have, along with the first counting machine, also
gave us the first recognisable...

Penny Black. by
Rod
Is there any literature, or links on the web concerning
in-depth production of the penny black printing plates?
I am particularly interested in the employment of the
"rose engine" in the delicate filagree work on the
mandrels.
I wonder if the engine turning is consistent across
all stamps of the...

Graham Gooch:
Amongst a stellar career, he scored a record 456 runs in the
Lord's Test against India in 1990, 333 in the first
innings and 123 in the second. As of 2006, this is
the only instance in any first-class cricket, of a batsman
scoring 300 and 100 in two innings of the same match, and...

I apologize if this is a repeat to some of you; I oroginally posted this to Google Groups and I

the date is in red. This caught my eye - I have never seen a...
