Tolkien's Gown and Other Stories of Great Authors and Rare Books

Modern Library Collectors' SIte (Dogeared) Back Up by
Scot Kamins
Folks,
A note to new folks (and a reminder to old timers) that Dogeared, the
premier non-commercial Web site for collectors of the the Modern
Library series 1917-1970, is up and running.
I took Dogeared down for a couple of months, intending to abandon the
project entirely. Since then, I've been...

BLINDSIGHTED by Karin Slaughter -"1st" question by
soulofcicero
I am trying to determine what is a true "first" for Karin Slaughter's
BLINDSIGHTED.
Amazon shows William Morrow & Company published the hardcover
September 4, 2001.
Amazon UK shows Century published the hardcover September 6, 2001.
Which indicates the US Morrow edition is the "true" first.

Print on demand weirdness by
my-wings
Maybe someone can explain this to me.
I was just using AddAll to look up a book: The Mountain Gorilla: Ecology and
Behavior, by George B. Schaller. Later printings seem to be going in the
range of $20-$40, with gusts up to $60 for a first printing ex-library copy.
And then come the print-on-demand...

Erased pencil price notations by
Telicalbook
Should erased pencil prices that are fairly small be noted in a description?
What if the book is in less than very good condition? I always do, I'm just
wondering if I'm overgrading.

Book Binding Question. by
Matalog
I have recently bought a paperback book from 1938. The book is becoming
unattached from the thin card cover. The spine was attached to the pages
only on the spine not on the face of the pages. I was wondering - if I was
going to glue this spine on or fix this book again how would I go about...

Number Lines by
Georgia Denby
Hi all,
I'm new to this but have always had a passion for books.
I understand that number lines beginning with a 1 are probably first
editions, but the publisher 'Random House' use 2 as their first
editions.
Therefore, what does a 1 stand for in a book by Random House? I have
quite a few but cant...

How best to protect valuble paperback by
ivy_mike
It's twenty years old already. It's in very good condition,
but with the pages starting to yellow. How should it be
stored please? I realize it should be kept at room temp.
and away from light...any other pointers? I just figured I'd
pack it in it's own little box.
