Ayn Rand by Michael E. Marotta
I study numismatics because of Ayn Rand. Thirty-five years ago, in the 11th grade, another political conservative handed me ANTHEM. After that, I read THE FOUNTAINHEAD and ATLAS SHRUGGED. I then signed up for a taped lecture series, "Principles of Objectivism" and bought more of her books. I had...

Ever lost a "favorite" coin? by Larry Louks
Howdy, friends! Some of you are aware that I recently moved from Oregon to Texas. For a year or more before the move, I've been carrying a few "pocket" coins, one of which was an 1864 two cent piece. I've had a lot of fun with it. There have been several times when I have been in a meeting and...

Complete! by John Carney
Completed the business strike portion of my Kennedy set yesterday. The final coin was the 1982 issue, a damn pesky coin. For some reason, the 1982 souvenir sets have exploded in value and I just haven't been able to find a loose Unc '82 in any dealers stock. I picked this one up while sitting...

Any FAQs on Certified vs Non-Cerified Collecting by Ron
After basicallly taking a 2 year hiatus, I'm trying to get back into things. Actually, I've continued to buy all that I want from the Mint and have stacks of almost unopened boxes. No time due to other projects. Anyway, I've been rethinking how I want to collect. I have been collecting...

Uncle Johns Cider Mill tokens by JSTONE9352
We made our annual fall trip to Uncle Johns Cider Mill, north of St. Johns Michigan today and discovered that they are now issuing tokens for entry to the corn maze and rides on their train. The token is the same size and thickness as a US quarter and on the obverse "Uncle Johns Cider Mill" along...

ANA raising dues by oepepper
If I remember correctly the ANA said it had to sell off the ANACS grading business because it made such a profit it endangered the non profit status of the organization. Now it seems they must raise dues. I can't help but beleive the sell off had more to do with dealers not wanting the competition....

"Cleaning" Lincoln Cents by Rank Amateur
I am resuming coin collecting after a very long hiatus, and I am focussing on Lincoln cents, 1909-1958. I have heard that contaminents on the cents (paper dust from 2x2's, etc.) may cause the cents to corrode over time. Is that true? If that is true, is it advisable, before I place the cents...
