Always Read the 'Small Print' on Ebay by AriehG
Perhaps you'd like to bid $1.75 for $1.69 of face value for some 30ish year old US commemoratives with hinge remnants? Maybe a decent deal if you want to fill some album spaces. The lot description even includes the caveat: 'sold as is final sale ask before bids'. So you place your bid and wait,...

Got it! An eBay purchase -- full circle by Bob Ingraham
You may recall that this thread started with my winning an early U.S. airmail cover. The purchase didn't go smoothly because eBay suddenly started using my old rather than my new e-mail address in all its communications. Ebay couldn't notify me that I'd won the lot, and the seller couldn't get...

Philatelists' Blindness -- TV Programme by Rodney
I have some "let out clause" with my latest effort. I knew the stamp in question was a newspaper stamp and so looked back of book. The overprint was not a surcharge but regarded by Gibbons as a plebiscite issue, and consequently placed in issue order. Hence, I think I can wriggle out of my mistake...

1898 U.S. Specimen Stamp by Ed Jackson
Five or six years ago, I purchased in auction a specimen of the 1898 U.S. $2.00 Trans-Mississippi Exposition stamp (Scott 293S). Sam Houston Philatelics described the stamp as "XF unusued with 'Specimen' ovpt in violet." The centering is near-perfect, and the word "Specimen" is in tiny letters at...

Which countries? by mike

The US Airmail That Never Was by humanbeing
I have unsuccessfully been pondering a philatelic mystery for some time and thought this would be an excellent forum to bring it to in hope of solving it. I had either a Scott or Harris plate block album in the early 1960s, which had pictured in it a US airmail stamp honoring the InterAmerican...

Rogue Causing Grief for Dealers,Collectors-Stamp Club by [email protected]
Assuming that the allgations are true, it seems that only a gutless twit would be fearful of naming names. .. Either this stuff is in the public record or it is not. If it is as alleged why not present the name of this "dealer"? .. If that makes you quiver in your boots, just provide a link to...
