hello all, I'm trying to get a decent digital image of a watermark with my scanner. My method is still not perfect although I manage to see the watermark but not very clear. I'd appreciate very much if anyone could help me or provide directions in achieving this goal in a better...

Waxed sandwich bags - this is NOT off-topic!!! by John Mycroft[_2_]
Gday Some time ago I bought a large junk lot that includes thousands of stamps in hundreds of what I took to be old fashioned glassines but which turn out to be, I think, waxed paper sandwich bags. They are about 7 x 5" and have a 1" gusset in the side so you can get a decent size chip buttie in...

Oh happy day, almost by Ralphael1
Yesterday I was using the computer to compile a list of stamps. I went into a bit of detail making the list and was quite proud I had finished my task. I hit the save button and exactly 1/10 of a second later there was a power interruption. Oh Happy day, God has smiled on me. I ran across the...

Who will fight for suspended ebay sellers? by Tom Rogers
The number of 100% feedback sellers being removed from eBay is now tearing at my soul.. If Walmart discharges just 500 workers then it becomes front page news, but these workers do get the benefit of at least un-employment insurance .. Since the shake up at eBay with the CEO's new disruptive...

US stamps used for money/payment by phantomm_1
Hello, During my stamp searching adventures, I often came across old ads on paper for various things offered for sale thru the mail. Some of these ads state: Do not send Stamps for payment, or something similar. So stamps were used as money for some things it seems.

Bosnia Query - delurking by Steve Clark
I'm a long time lurker, who'd like some help - mainly because I don't trust my eyes. The stamp in question is the mint Bosnia Herzegovina SG 160 in the middle. Gibbons refers to a reprint of the 40h (made in 1911) "which can be recognised by their duller colours, white paper and colourless gum. ...

Germany: AMG by TL
I have these Germany AMG stamps. What I need are the present Michel catalog values in Euros (or US$) assuming the ids are correct. What I've written down to identify each stamp is what was written already by someone else. I have an old Michel catalog and figured out what some of it means but have...

Scott Catalog - Earliest Documented Use by Kent[_2_]
The Scott Specialized Catalog provides the Earliest Documented Use for many stamps. What should a collector do if they have a cover or postcard showing a date earlier than the Earliest Documented Use? Are these dates constantly being revised, or would this indicate some special availability or...

Counterfeit stamps by John Stone
How big a problem is counterfeiting of stamps? I'm thinking of those sold in the collector market and not the common ones used everyday for postage. I notice there is a "buyer beware" notice about stamps on Ebay. Was this the result of a lot of complaining from stamp collectors seeing...

Anyone Here Collect Spain (Speciality?) by Tracy Barber
Hi - I've been sorting out piles of Spain lately. Maybe about 15 #10 enevelopes, pretty full. I've been accumulating them for about 10 years. I have some mixed feelings about their entire history, but wanted to share about what I've seen. Spain seems to have a mixed bag of really decent and...

Calculating Forbin's 1914 Catalog Value For Today's Market... by Tracy Barber
Hi there! I need to ask some of the big wigs (please put on tin hats, grab a T-square and your pocket protectors) here a question about catalog values and a cool way to calculate them - since I know of no other way. We have, in the past year, talked about the Forbin Catalog for Revenue Stamps. ...

Stamps in movies: Shanghai Knights by Edward Stamm
Watched the Jackie Chan/Owen Wilson movie 'Shanghai Knights' last night. In it, a man in China (the Forbidden City) receives a letter from Chan, who is out west in the US. The year is 1887. I froze the frame and zoomed in on the envelope, and it APPEARED to have a 5c Zachary Taylor plus 3...
