How I Almost Bought a Book Store During My Christmas Vacation by
William M. Klimon
Over the vacation, I almost bought a book store.
There's a little book shack about 5 miles north of us (in the opposite
direction of every other book store in the area). I'd been frequenting
it the past two years and had been able to pull some nice material out
of there. Almost like clockwork, I...

WWI Books, Again by
Francis A. Miniter
Apropos a previous thread, I found I have yet another:
Frances Wilson Huard, My Home in the Field of Mercy (G. H. Doran 1917).
An English (?) woman, married to a Frenchman, she actually wrote three WWI
books. The first, My Home in the Field of Honor (1916), tells of the initial
battles of the...

The Peter Pauper Press Now Collectible? by
Telicalbook
Hi, It seems that The Peter Pauper Press books now have some higher values. I
had a hunch about five years ago this would happen and tried to buy them when I
saw them. I can definitely understand why, they are always good titles and
sometimes have good art.

Chuck Palahniuk by
Willow Arune
It seems this writer has become very collectible...
I have his "Invisible Monsters" - autographed. A very friendly bookstore is
close by his home and will get the books autographed if you wish free. So
mine cost about $15 with shipping, and I noted the same book on Abebooks...

Question regarding old cloth book covers by
Eric Wright
I recently acquired a 10 book set of Robert Louis Stevenson's works
printed in 1930. They are in very good shape with one exception: They
have green dyed cloth covers and when handling the books the dye comes
off on your fingers. Now I am not an expert on old books but I do like
to read. I really...

Advice on War and Peace edition by
[email protected]
Hello -
I'm looking to purchase a nice edition of War and Peace.
These are the things I am looking for, in order of importance:
1) Multiple volumes - this book is too large to be in a single volume!
2) Ideally a Constance Garnett translation
3) Unabridged
4) Nice hardcover binding, paper, layout,...

Alibris customer service - nonexistent? follow-up by
Jeremy Goldbloom
Follow up to kind advice received.
It takes a lot of persistence to contact "customer service" at
Alibris. I got a personal reply after my 5th attempt to contact them.
Still have not received the book I ordered however after 37 days,
allegedly sent airmail to the UK. Maybe the plane flew into...
