Catalogue Prices - Where From? by
Coffee's For Closers
A fairly simple, but puzzling question...
Where do the prices in coin catalogues come from?
Do the publishers send out surveys to lots of dealers, asking how
various items are actually priced in the shops? Or is there some
kind of guesstimating based on some other information?

What do you all think of PCGS's price guide? I'm aware it supposedly covers
PCGS slabbed coins only. But,wow, some of those prices seem way off on the
high side. Especially some of the differences between one grade and the
next.
