Mr. Washington is looking good! by Amistad
I'm always in quest of nice birth-year coins, and I frequently look at such on eBay. Here's a really pretty one, provided that you like toning of this type. This coin is beyond what I'd pay for it, but I do enjoy seeing...

In change today... by [email protected]
From a pop machine at work today, got a 1940 (I think) Merc dime in at least VF20. Looks like it may have been through a fire at one time, but under magnification what looks like a burnt area is actual fingernail polish! Even common date coins like this make me wonder about its history....

At least it didn't involve a $2 bill by [email protected]
http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/dsbiz/x30-bng1.htm snip She gave her son, Trevor, a $10 bill, an older one dated 1995, and told him to go inside and pay. The station is one of those that makes you prepay for your gas. Trevor came back out and stunned his mom by saying the clerk...

Dealers - an opinion please - Am I way out of line? by Doc
I am generally a lurker not a poster here but I am upset after an encounter at the closest coin shop today. In response to the encounter I was moved to write the owner (who was the person I spoke to) the following letter: "Sir, As the only collector/bullion investor in my group of friends...

Penny Controversy by [email protected]
The debate over continuing mintage of cents continues. Would eliminating the cent from coinage be such a bad thing? The half-cent (1793-1857) has long gone the way of the dodo. In 1859 the cent was reduced dramatically in size. Daniel B. Wheeler

I didn't know that! by Bill Krummel
Below is an excerpt from an article printed in the June, 2006 issue of the "Numismatist". The article is by David W. Lange, is titled "S-Mint Cents of 1968-74, Part 2" and begins on page 22. I really enjoyed the article. The following paragraph pertains to the 1969-S DDO. "This variety was...

I did it again... by Amistad
....and I hope that you good folks will forgive me. A moment ago, I messed up and happened onto an auction that showed the feet of the eagle on a twenty cent piece. As I have mentioned in the past, a bout of such strong laughing, hooting, and cackling swept over me that I could do nothing but...

My son....who is not a collector.... by Dale Hallmark
My wife (who has a fondness for slots) and son went to Vegas for about three days. My son is 18, can't gamble there yet, and shows no interest in doing so (thank God) but wanted to see the sights. I have no interest in LV or gambling (been there, done that) so I stayed home and went to work...
