Just curious if anyone has seen or has any comments about the "United We Stand Collection" at http://unitedwestandcollection.com/ ("25 classic U.S. stamps preserved forever as flawlessly engraved pure silver ingots, layered with 24 karat gold") It looks cool to me, and the USPS is definitely...

from a newbie - do I have something worth investigating? by A R Pickett
I recently discovered a large old fashioned storage box, filled with stamps and covers accumulated by my aunt. Most of the postmarks are from the 1940's and 1950's. The volume of cancelled stamps is considerable, and while there might be something of value in there, I'm confident the effort...

Having recently gotten back to stamps, I just purchased the above mentioned Scott catalog. Very handy and well laid out. My question is how closely do the prices listed reflect actual market values? Thanks!

New subject; was: Is the Peru stamp legit by A.E. Gelat
This is an example of what happens to a stamp if the postal authority handling it deems it unacceptable. In 1995, the Palestinian Authority (PA) issued a set of three stamps showing stamps of Palestine issued during the British Mandate. The stamps (SG PA 23, 24 and 25), ), showed Rachel's Tomb, a...

Response to Question from D. French by A.E. Gelat
This is one and a half years late, but better late than never. Someone wrote: "A weird fact -- some under-employed statistician once calculated that every drop of water on this planet has been through a human body just over 11 times (ughh!!)". I disagreed with that, and offered to do...

Self-adhesive cuts by A.E. Gelat
What is the proper name for the sinusoidal cuts used on the self-adhesives? The spacing of the "waves" can be measured on a standard perforation gauge, but I have not seen any mention of gauge in cataloguing the stamps. Do they vary, and has there been any changes in the gauge? Tony

Central Australia by A.E. Gelat
I know this not philatelic, or maybe it could be. Many years ago, I was looking at a very old atlas, and saw on a map of Australia "Central Australia, Territory". It occupied the southern half of the present Northern territory. Since it no longer appears on current maps, I assume it was merged...
