New Collector with a Question by
Chris Vannoy
I've recently began collecting Franklin half dollars and I was wondering wht
does it mean when a coin has FBL and how can I tell if mine has it? I won an
auction yesterday off eBay that said the coin had FBL and I was just
curious.
Thanks

Sen. Phil Gramm as next Treasury Secretary? by
Malanutt 4 Life
There was an article someone posted on the wheresgeorge website about Senator
Phil Gramm possibly being the next Treasury Secretary. Wasn't he the guy that
wanted a redesign of all coins and currency? I was hoping if this is the same
guy I'm thinking of, that we might get to see new $1 and $2...

Standard Catalog Of World Coins 19th Century fourth edition? by
B.J. Herbison
Does anyone know when the 4th edition of Krause 1801-1900 will ship?
The Krause web site only lists the 3rd edition. Amazon.com lists
the 4th as "not released", and my order for it says "Shipping estimate:
November 21, 2004" (obviously not met). bn.com implies the book is
available to...

"Numismatic Snobs" ... or Coin Vault irony? by
Miles Carson
I'd lost interest in the Con Vault awhile ago, because it's been
reduced to a banal repetition of stale platitudes, historical myths,
statistical lies, contradictions, and bulk "finite supplies", but I
did tune in this morning just in time to catch Chambers utter the
statement "numismatic snobs" in...

PGS certified coin? by
Larry Louks
I guess I haven't been very attentive in my numismatic endeavors heretofore.
This is the first coin I've ever seen that is graded by this outfit.

Cool metal detector find by
Wes Chormicle
Guy walks into the shop and asks the ever popular "what's it worth" and
plops down a XF Barber head quarter....
He found it metal detecting, it had a little crud on it, but it had definite
XF detail....
1896
Then I flipped it over, and low and behold there was a "S"

FA: GMM Proof Chain Cent Auction Closing Cheap! by
Ken Potter
So far the Proof GMM Chain cent I have on eBay is going cheap! With only 4.5
hours left it has only been bid up to $66! The Proof versions of the GMM 1793
Liberty Cap and Wreath cent have NO BIDS at all and have min bids under $50.
Check it out -- maybe you can get a GMM rarity at a cheapie...

OOOPS: Sorry About the Misplaced WTB post by
Nick Knight
I sent a CANCEL message, but those don't seem to work well. By force of
habit, I picked this newsgroup instead of the local forsale group. It's
almost just reflex, picking rec.collecting.coins when posting :)
Again, Sorry.
