2003 silver proof set question by Keith Fletcher
I decided to try and speculate a bit with silver proof sets. Bought ten of them. Last time I tried something like this, it was with Buffalo Silver Dollars, so I felt like I knew what I was doing. Wrong. All ten proof sets had problems from carbon specks to grease smears that took up at least...

How are your grading skills? by mark
We had an interesting presentation at our last coin club about grading. A local dealer presented a synopsis of a seminar he does at the state (Iowa) show. We were given a test at the end. About fifteen coins were handed out and we were instructed to examine each for about 20 seconds (just like the...

Change Find 16SEP2003 by Jon
A few weeks ago I went in to pay for gas and noticed three silver dollars under a couple of halves in the till. I asked if I could buy them assuming they were Eisenhower dollars. "Sure" said the clerk. Turned out I got three Morgans, an 1878 and two 1889's, for $1.00 each! \"Bo\" Mathews...

Let's hope the US Mint doesn't get any ideas from the Great White North... by Bob Flaminio
Seen these yet? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=royal_canadian_mint Apparently the Canadian Mint has made two *unique* coins, and is auctioning them on eBay for charity. That's one surefire way to **** off collectors -- at least with a low mintage coin you have a...

Half-dollar Jackpot!!! by John
At the bank two days ago, I asked if they had any rolls of half dollars. The teller pulled out a tray of ten rolls. "How many do you want?" She asked. Pulling out a hundred dollar bill, I told her, "All of them." I was mainly looking for newer coins for my coin book. I thought that it was...

People should really be careful! by Fred
People should be careful when they bid! It took me a while to notice what was wrong with this coin. The seller made no note of it and I wasn't watching for it because they called it UNC. Check this out! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3046446411&category=41085

PING: Reid. Counterfeit St G's by Bruce Hickmott
Greetings! A few days ago I said I thought I could likely assemble a date/mintmark set of St G $20's, all counterfeit based on what I'd seen. I'm going to have to back off on that, but here's a date by date breakdown. !907 HR - First seen in 1976, by far the most common St counterfeit and the...

Sweden euro vote means trouble for Tony Blair by John Stone
The UK is supposed to vote on the euro at some time but Blair keeps putting it off. The recent defeat of the euro in Sweden is going to make it more difficult for him to pass it in the UK. Even without the Swedish vote it was not looking good.

Who says people don't like $2 bills? by John Stone
A store promotion in Florida got out of hand yesterday when a cannon shot $10,000 worth of $2 bills into a crowd of people. They began fighting over the money and some were hurt so bad in the mad scramble for the cash that they were sent to the hospital.
