A sad state of affairs by
capri
I tried an experiment at work this past week. I work with a bunch of
younger people. kids in their
early to mid 20's a few of them in their 30's. I bought 2 rolls of
presidential dollars and took them ioto
work and passed them out one to each person at the end of a weekly

Is it really gold? by
Lee[_2_]
Out of lurking again.
I was watching that gold commercial Gordon Liddy does for Roseland Capital.
At the end he shuffled a handful of gold coins from one hand to the other.
They sounded like a handful of plastic to me so I was wondering about it? Was
he shuffling real Gold Coins?

Fun Show 2010 - New Location in 2011? by
Nick Knight
Went to the FUN show, well, what was a little over a week ago now. I was in
Naples "on vacation" anyway and planned on traveling to Orlando for a day
and an overnight. With the cold and rain on Saturday, we ended up spending
most of that day there, too. Almost 2 full days!
Friday was great, in...

Gold Colored Dollar Coins by
Dave Rutan
I've now seen in two places during the last week where someone claims
that the gold color of the Sacagawea dollar coin 'rubs' off after a
short time. Is there any truth to this? In my experiments the golden
dollars wear just fine. The patina might 'age' but it definitely
doesn't go to anything...

"Blast White" by
Petronius
The term "Blast White" has become so over/misused on eBay so as to become almost
meaningless.
Not that the term makes much sense anyway!
It's not yet come to the point where I won't look at auctions that use the term
in the description but it does send up a warning flare...

How to clean grime off by
Wm Hopkins[_2_]
I have a large number of current, circulated coins that relatives have
picked up during their travels. Nothing special just pocket change. How can
I clean the dirt and grime off so they're a little more presentable? Not
trying to pull anything funny, just going to put them in 2x2's and a 3-ring...

Largest quarters she has ever seen by
Duh_OZ
Spent some halves at a Jewel/Osco and had the bagger tell me those
were the biggest quarters she ever saw in her life. I just rolled my
eyes :0)
Cashier was also perplexed for a bit. Couldn't figure out 11 halves
= $5.50 so counted them by twos, hence the bagger got a look at them
while on...

General Public's Knowledge of Our Money (Sigh) by
Bob
My name and email address appear on a numismatic website (please don't
look for it!), and I get inquiries every now and then regarding the
value of OPA red points or other oddball items. Today I received an
email headed "+token given out by gas station." The text (minus the
sender's name) is as...

What to buy at Orlando coin show ? by
[email protected]
I am interested in gold or silver only for asset preservation against
inflation and possible profit in the next couple of years. Right now I
have about 5% of cash in 1 ounce Maple Leafs and American Eagles. In
recent weeks have had trouble finding any Eagles at local coin stores.
I also have...

Upcoming Girl Scouts commemorative dollar ? by
MKW
No this will have a male featured on the front correct? Since the Boy
Scout dollar had a female featured on the obverse design. I am still
confused by the design choice for what could have been a great Boy
Scout Dollar. They definitly did not win any fans with those who are
actually boy scouts.

Numismatist on owning counterfeits by
Reid Goldsborough[_2_]
In the column Numismatic Ethics the authors talk about the legalities of
owning, buying, and selling counterfeits of collectable coins. At least
two people here have argued for years that this is illegal and
unethical, one by playing lawyer, amateurishly combining unrelated
statutes. The...

Dimple (DMPL) tester by

I was at a club meeting last night and some one brought in a "Dimple"
tester, (DMPL, Deep Mirror Proof Like). It was a flat piece of plastic
with colored lines and text at designated distances from a slot where
the test coin was placed on its edge. Depending on which line and text
was clearly...
