Chicago Tribune Feature - Elongated Coins by
oly
FWIW, there was a feature article today on elongated coins in the
Chicago Tribune Tempo Section (Section #2 - Arts & Entertainment) today
(February 3, 2005). It was a pretty good piece, pretty factual, only
one minor statement that I would disagree with (i.e., in fact, Disney
has used parties...

1968-D Silver half-dollar by
[email protected]
I have a question that I hope someone can answer. I have a 1968-D half
dollar that I could swear is more silver than copper. There is no
visible copper tone on the eadge of the coin; It is normally quite
apparent. It is tarnishing more like silver, as compared to the other
coins in my...

Westward Journey Coin and Medal Proof Set price test by
joe
I've checked out some of the new Westward Journey proof sets going on
ebay so I figured I'd take mine down to the local coin shop. I knew
I'd get less then ebay prices but I thought if they would offer me
something in the same ballpark I'd trade it in instead of taking cash
for it. That would...

Why Slabs are more popular in US than UK by
Alan Williams
To me, a simple answer. The US is a much larger country, physically.
The 'sight unseen' market has rewarded reliable and consistent
third-party grading for taking much of the risk out of buying coins
'remotely'.
That is, by mail, phone or internet, buying an NGC MS-64 Antietam Half
Dollar carries...

Ebay on Super Bowl Sunday by
Randy Thompson
I've always heard that day of big sporting events were great days for
buyers and lousy days for sellers since so many are watching the game
and not surfing ebay. I've tried on many occasions to get some of
these great deals but I personally never seem to find them.
Just this morning I realized...

Type vs. Variety Question by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I have a question. This probably has been asked many times, but
what is the distinction between a type and a variety? For example, is
the Silver Washington Quarter a different type than the Clad Washington
Quarter? What about the Wartime Nickels? Is the Copper-Plated Zinc
cent...

Daughter Was Impressed - Not by
Ron
So I received a coin today in the mail, won on E-Bay. Got a 1975
Lincoln NGC MS66 RD (my first circulated). I have a side pastime just
for kicks, picking up certified small cents cheap (hey, it fills the
time). Lost way more bids then I have won. Picked this one up for
about 7 bucks including...
