Those little pale colored spots in the margins on banknotes by
AL
Can anyone tell me what those little colored spots are that one finds
on banknotes form several countries? They appear in random positions,
are about 1/16" in size and are always most noticable when they appear
in the margin. They always seem to be in faint pastel hues.
Are they a security...

Question about broken bank notes and modern banknotes by
AL
Hi
I read somewhere that most American broken bank notes were in fact
checks (bearer checks). Would anyone agree or disagree with that?
Would the same statement correctly apply to the 19th century
provinicial bank notes of England?
What about modern banknotes of the USA and Britain?
I think I...

Alan Roy
Hi,
Is anybody here familiar with the calendars produced by Giesecke & Devrient?
They are 21 by 13 inches and feature examples of some of the banknotes they
print. I have a couple and wanted to find out more about them, or maybe try
to pick up some more.
Watch out! My email address is munged!

One Hundred Dollars I didnt want by
Alan Williams
I hope I have correctly crossposted, and that paper-money responses will
also land in RCC. ;-) I am a coin collector who never had any interest
in pursuing paper money, but this morning my wife handed me a dilemma,
so I get to ask a newbie question.
At the bank yesterday she was handed a $100...

dollar-sign transformed from 2-lines to 1-line ? by
[email protected]
I remember when a 2-stroke dollar sign was seen in print. I myself
haven't seen one recently.
I remember reading long ago, in a fiat-money-is-unconstitutional tract,
that the change first occurred when (hope I'm remembering this
correctly!) when the US Army ceased paying in silver specie.......

Paper History by
Albumen
Hi all.
I've been working on US paper history for about 10 years now. I wish to know
what subjects you may be interested in hearing about. I know of only one
publication for paper money collectors, so if you'd like to suggest a topic
and a publication I'd be willing to consider making a...

Most unusual or remarkable paper money / banknotes? by
Alex
Can anyone suggest what could be considered some very unusual examples
of paper money or banknotes? I'm aware of wooden notes, silk notes and
postage stamp currency. Are there other strange examples?
Thank you,
Alex C

what if an old USD bill is NOT collectible by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I've got an old one hundred dollar bill from 1934, "series of 1934 A".
It's probably not worth anything more than it's face value (from what
I've read in this group, I see they're still very common) but I still
have
a question to all the collectors out there.
It's in bad shape, it has...
