Prince Otto query... by
Jonathan
I have a Roberts Brothers "Prince Otto" The title page says 1886.
The copyright page is completely blank. This would, at first blush,
make me think that it is the first Robert Brothers edition. But I
also have a 1889 Roberts Brothers "Prince Otto" that also has a blank
copyright page. Which...

Rebacked...? by
Jonathan
All sorts of questions today:
All other things being equal, which is a better: A book with the
original spine that is moderately worn...or the same book that has had
the spine "rebacked" ?
TIA (again)

A new find not on my want list. by
Annibale
I don't do Saturday shopping. Whenever I find something it is a red
letter day. I came across a title not on my list. I do collect Canadian
humor in my period if I can find it. This one, I never want listed.

Old Books on Famous Women by
WeeWilly
After my parents died, I found a couple/few books in the garage that are
about famous women. These are from the late 1800's. The covers aren't in
great shape, but the books themselves seem to be complete and without bug or
other damage. Just wondering if there might be any value in them to...

Saturday Morning Book Hunt by
Francis A. Miniter
It's all bad enough when you buy a book only to find you have it at home. But
to buy a book at 1:00 pm that is (nearly) the same as one you bought at 8:30 am,
AND which you also have at home. Makes me wonder if those pills for memory
work. At least the 8:30 am copy was older than the other...

Collecting by
Annibale
I have been buying selling and collecting since about 1960. Recently,
since I am getting old and am not too well, I decided to sell of a lot
of my stuff in various fields. It has been interesting to notice
differences. On the West coast, auctions bring very little for rare
childrens books of the...

Aesophine's fable by
tontoko
In the old days, when men were allowed to have many wives, a
middle-aged Man had one wife that was old and one that was young; each
loved him very much, and desired to see him like herself. Now the Man
began to dress up for going to the market with the young Wife, when she
did not like his wrinkles...

Cold Comfort Farm by
Ted Jones
My girlfriend just phoned and found reprints at Costco (For those who
have not enjoyed the experience, it is a North American store that
offers deep discounts on the toys and gustatory delights of affluent
Americans.) Usually it's book selection is reserved for Bestsellers.
Has Stella Gibbons been...

Fraudulent Ebay Seller - John Pelan by
Shelf Space
Just a short warning to those thinking of buying books from John Pelan
who sometimes trades under the name of MIDNIGHT HOUSE BOOKS.
Pelan lost his job a few months ago and has been desperately trying to
offload his junky book collection on Ebay. These are some of his more
questionable antics:

Jerry Morris reply to me some time ago. by
Annibale
Sorry Jerry I don't get back here very often. Thank you for your nice
note. Your collecting pattern, including bibliographies is sure to be
one which could be helpful to many serious young collectors. You have
so much easy information at home, I have seen you help the
pros.
I went to the Hyde...

Insurance for a book collection by
LiRM
Our homeowners policy covers - as most homeowners policies do -
coverage for loss of contents due to various events - fires, wind and
water damage (think hurricanes - we live in FL), theft, etc.
They do not cover the cost of what it would take for me to replace a
good many of my books that I'm...

Resolving John Pelan by
Shelf Space
Two questions:
1. You claim to follow ABAA book description guidelines. Please can you
advise whether you are in fact a member of the ABAA (or have ever
been)?
2. After seeking to imply that you had multiple copies of THE
SORCERER'S CHESSMEN, you side-stepped my suggestion that we compare...

Looking For A Specific German Dictionary by
Some Guy
So far my efforts to track this down for my collection have been
fruitless; perhaps someone here can help me. I'm looking for a specific
German-English dictionary whose title I don't recall, and I'm looking
for it because of a specific appendix regarding German maledicta. Let
me explain...

Which Copy to Keep on the Shelf by
Francis A. Miniter
I have two copies of a book - Bartholomew Gill, Death of a Joyce Scholar
(Morrow, 1989), and am in need of shelf space. Which is the more
collectible? (I know, we are not talking about a book in big demand.)
1. A first printing, ex-library, with fewer markings than normal,
with a VG to Fine...
